Just go crazy and have fun using your imagination for nests and plants etc - there is no wrong way and only trial and error will show you what works best for you and your birds
I recently finished my new aviary and what helped was that I planned it out all before hand. I looked at my existing aviary and thought what do I really not like and where/what can I improve on with the new aviary. Think about how you will catch the birds as well, so make sure you have an open flight section where you can herd the birds into that area for catching. Otherwise you could end up crashing around with the net near nests etc. In terms of nests, work out how many pairs of birds you plan to keep in the aviary and have at least 2 nest options available for each pair.
Also, go out into the veld and cut down some brush etc. I cut down a bunch of indeginous brush to use for this season and next season, I will just go cut some fresh brush. All I did was give it a good shake, hose down and allowed to dry before putting it in the aviary.
Have fun and keep us updated!!
