yellow CANARY turning white?

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Just a thought. Is she getting either (unfiltered) natural sunlight or full spectrum artificial light? Bob

I'm going to move this topic to the All Things Canary forum so other members won't be confused by any advice given, since it might apply only to canaries and not to finches.

thank you for responding.. She is in an outdoor aviary and the weather is in the 50's so she has a fluffy coat. the aviary faces north and the sun is from the south so the only direct sun light she gets is if she sits on the west side and then sun shines into the aviary mid day.

Hi. I have gotten into canaries and have found that with cooler temperatures the birds will grow a lot of down type feathers that will give them a lighter color. Also there is the intensive feather type and the buff feather type. The latter having white tips that overlap the next feather giving a lighter look. But if the bird was more yellow and now much less then color food may have been the results. I feed several of my yellow canaries an ABBA product that helps obtain the richest yellow, along with the lutein containing foods (kale, greens) this is the food I feed, Ralf Yellow http://www.abbaseed.com/Seed_Products/9 ... ellow.html

Other things you may want to try offering are marigold flowers and dandelion - both leaves and flowers. Bob
