Ps. See if you can put up a shelf or two in your entrance cage. The extra storage space always comes in useful!

Mands LOL... no thanks... on the paying LOL.
I dont have any more animals because we have to move next year LOL IF this was my house.. i would have a dog, and some other things and more birds.
When we go house hunting in a few years (we are moving into a condo or town house at the moment - duplex maybe! so space will be 1/3 of what we have now OR LESS!!! which... actually is a blessing for me) I will be looking for a BIG backyard (fenced) so I can have a few dogs, and a goat (must!) a bird room... and if thats a insulated sunrom EVEN BETTER! then.... I think about how I won't be able to go away on holidays.. THEN i think about how I should just pay a neighbor to do it LOL.. I thankfully have his cousin that lives next door who will come in and feed them for me
though... i caught myself looking into buying a bearded dragon today for my daughter

Re: New Aviary for my christmas present.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone
I am going to be like a little kid, i have to wait until the 17th of January to get it as they are going on Christmas break this week and wont have time to build it
At least it gives me time to buy all the nests etc that i will need to deck it out. The best part is it is going to be right outside my bird room so i can sit in there and watch them as well.
I plan on putting all of my exotics out there that are currently inside in my big flight cages. I hope to have more luck breeding them out there

@Rox good idea about the shelf, I am sure hubby can rig something up for me

Re: New Aviary for my christmas present.
Mands my friends had success having canaries and finches in there together - I guess its not very advisable from further reading this forum? And they bred well and had little quails to eat what they dropped!
They also had mice problems but I'm sure you've looked into that! I am so jealous its so harsh here if I were down under again I would totally get an outside aviary.
Are they putting it together for you?
This goes without saying but ahem! Make sure to provide pics!
And what will go inside?

We are putting it together, it is more fun i think. And yes you will get lots of pics, I just love taking pics.
I plan to use the cages that will be left empty inside for babies to be sorted and sold. Yes I do have the will power to sell babies, I just need the will power to not buy any more birds.
No, truly I am not going to get anymore as I have to consider that if they do breed successfully I will have a herd of babies coming through - fingers crossed !!
I wish my Gouldian's would do something, they still don't even sit together or even acknowledge each other. I will see how they go outside, maybe I will get some luck.

Rox
I will make it all neat and tidy lol but yes a plan is good !! Lucky we have some brush trees in our back yard on our property to use and the aviary is going over the top of a tree, a Japanese Maple which we will cut back to suit, I think they will love it. Lots of pics coming up once i get it home.

Re: New Aviary for my christmas present.
Before putting birds in I would consider fitting a catching cage in there...it could go in the safety porch to avoid accidental escapes.A simple feeding box with a sliding trapdoor operated from a distance with fishing line works for me.
A bit of patience needed to catch individuals...but saves a lot of thrashing about with nets.
