my 'finch village'

Post by lonchura_boi » Sun Jan 05, 2014 8:16 pm

this is my very own finch village. got back into finches after years away from them about a year ago with my beautiful pair of white javas, my how the flock has grown..... and there has been so much drama, births and sadly deaths too. currently finch village is home to my white javas who are fledging 4 chicks at the moment, 3 chocolate african silver bills (had so much drama with this species over the last 6 months and sadly on going as one of my hens died the other day), one pair of which is on eggs at the moment, a trio of bengalese and their 5 recently fledged chicks, one pair of zebras (they have their own house as they are too boistrous to live alongside anyone lol) and 7 chinese painted quail about 3 weeks old.

forgot a pic of the javas lol....

oh and can anyone tell me... look at the pic of the bengalese fledglings, 4 of them are this soft tawny brown, and will no doubt turn out like their father (the self chocolate in the pic next to their mother the cream/white) but one is a very dark charcoal colour..... any light on how he will turn out?

Very nice. I have no idea about the fledglings, but I'm sure others will know.

Great job! I love it! I just became mommy to a red-factor and I hope more finches in the future. Don' t know if hubby will go for it, but we shall see. I have had mostly small hook bills over the years, but am really enjoying the pleasant noise with my red-factor vs. screaming. I guess that means I'm getting old. Lol!

Hello. Love your village. Really cool setup with the plants on top and all. I was wondering, are all three cages somehow connected so that they can all go visiting and bring gifts of spray millet and such? By the way, beautiful birds. I really like the colour of your society mama.

the cages are not connected but im thinking of removing the black one in the middle and getting another white one and removing the sides so it creates one big cage.

hahah the zebs have their own cage, too aggressive to mix with anything else. i hope to build an aviary this year too, its been so long since i had an aviary! and the zebs will live out there.
