My first baby owl finch fledged today. There is still one in the nest.
I wasn't expecting it to look so scrawny. Also, there aren't many feathers on its little head and a bald spot on its back. Any ideas? Or.... is this normal. It is just the cutest little thing and I am so excited. It is flying all over the place. I tried to put it back, but it wouldn't have that.

All these pictures of babies are so cute! I think there will be an attempt at breeding once I have more experience under my belt.
A trio of happy zebs.

Often when they fledge, they aren't quite finished filling out all their baby feathers--they should come soon enough. Isn't it wonderful how Owl babies fledge with all the Owl coloring and markings in place, unlike so many species that are rather drab in their baby coloring. Congrats!

Thanks Sally. Yes, they are adorable. Today they both came out for a little while, but went back into the nest within 15 minutes.
The second one has all its little feathers. They are flying great. All over the place. I am not sure about the one in the picture above. It's little head is bald and it has two bald spots on its shoulder area.
On another note.... I had two gouldians eggs to hatch today. Am waiting to see if the other three hatch. Busy in my aviary these days.

How did I miss this post!!
Donna....your little baby Owls are just adorable....I can't wait for the day when I try to let my Owls raise some little ones! Or could they be called "Owlets".
Can the baby Owls continue to stay with the parents as they mature or will they eventually have to be separated?
Keep the updates coming....can't ever have too many pics of baby Owls!

Congratulations Donna,
They are adorable even though not fully fledged. It just gives them more character. hehe..
I would like to get a pair myself, but think I'll wait until I finish my aviary.
