I know I asked this before but things have changed. My BIL is putting new carpeting... He needs to do it in the whole of upstairs. When we do anything I put them in the master bathroom and they have been fine. But now he's doing that master bedroom too.
The problem: I don't have anyone that can watch them as they all smoke in the house etc.
I can move them into the laundry room whih is attached to the garage. Ther are however no windows. Nobody will go to the garage while they are there... But obviously I will Be doing laundry.
Or
Basement. There is light. I can turn on a light also. There are two windows. The furnace is in there... It gets warm (70?) and quite dry cause of the furnace.
Where do you recommend.
I won't have enough $ to have them watched at a vet..

I'm stressing!
How long would it take to be bird safe

The basement may be better with some natural light. The birds will have less noise, humidity and distractions than the laundry room also having no windows.

chirpy how long are they going to be doing work? I think it would be ok to move them to the basement where it will be warm and they will have light. I wouldn't keep them there for like a month obviously.. but it's a safe place for them.. they won't freeze, and they will still have light (artificial or not). And honestly it might be a good thing that the basement is dry rather than humid because humid basements are prone to mildew in the air which could potentially cause issues. I think they will be ok though! But maybe someone else can chime in with some advice! I think the key is how long they will be there. If they are going to be smoking in the house.. I would probably air it out once they leave and maybe give it a day or two if even that? As long as it is aired out and there is no lingering smoke.. the residue won't be on them because they will not have been there. I would however move their food and supplies away from any potential smoke contact though just to be safe. Even if you just put it in an airtight container in a closet or cabinet. And you ARE talking about them smoking cigarettes in the house? Right?

wellingtoncdm I appreciate the help! You've relieved my stress a lot!!! I think so too its quieter and less noise.. I just hope its not a long time before they can come back upstairs.
@fhgwgads Nooo no they won't be smoking in the house. I will NOT allow it! Sorry I meant anyone that can watch them smokes ---- like his mom. And they spit seeds everywhere lol so I can't really ask my neighbor she's a neat freak!!
Its still a basement so you don't get much light.
I wonder if I should have a lamp on during the day-evening and turning it off around 6 or so...

stresssss!!!! But I feel better talking to you both!

chirpy oh ok! Lol.. I was confused... cuz I was thinking you definitely would not let anyone smoke in your house! But then they should definitely be ok!! You could put a lamp down there to give them a bit more light.. but I wouldn't stress too much about it! They will be fine! It's not like you are locking them in a closet for a year.. or leaving them outside in the cold!!

fhgwgads I know... I stress easily esp about animals.
Yesterday I went to get my snake food... And there was a family with two pig puppies 10 weeks old.
Adorable. One was running around and let me hold and play but the other one was in the fathers arms. I asked if they were out of the same litter since they were the same size.. The mother of the fam said "yes! We jut picked them up today! I couldn't go home w just one" so the father put the other fawn pug (the other as black) on the ground and its hips collapsed. "She has issues walking.." Poor little pug, she would walk two steps and collapse. And try to run after the pug sister! I almost cried

but I was happy that she went home w a loving family.
Wow that was off topic lol.

Get a lamp and put it on a timer.
That way the birds will have a day and a night.
Put a night light near the birds, so they can find their perch if they get night fright.

Basement would be my vote too . Are you concerned that these people would harm your birdies?

lovezebs no im not concerned about them hurting my birds I'm
Concerned about the toxic fumes from the glue etc. they are re carpeting the stairs up to the second floor and the three bedrooms upstairs.
I've read that the glues are highly toxic to birds and I posted a question about it a few months ago. Then I was told they are recarpeting one room --- which has no carpeting due to huge dog pee patches from my BILs ex wife's cousins dogs (3 foot circle!) back then I was going to have them in the master bathroom which is far away as they can be with three doors in between but now that its the WHOLE upstairs and the flight of stairs I wasn't comfortable having them where they are. The house apart from the bedrooms are not closed off. Its veryyyyy open concept high ceiling etc so they can't really be blocked from the upstairs of te house
(Sigh) I WANT TO MOVE ALREADY

Got you. I had new carpets put in a few months back, not too long after I first got Luciano. I had my poor little fella in his cage in the kitchen with furniture, shelves, books, drawers etc piled all around him while people were working. He never even blinked and never missed a beat. Sang throughout the whole operation. The more noise we had, the louder he sang. No harm whatsoever. Your babies will be fine most especially in the basement.

Hi Chirpy. Honestly, it didn't smell that bad. I mean they heated the glue and whatnot but it wasn't so terrible. Crack windows open a bit if it's not awfully cold outside. Both of my sons have had slight asthma as kids and it didn't bother them. The one thing which may bother you, I know it bothered me, is the fluff that seems to be everywhete afterwards. It seems that I am still vacuming the stuff . It's like dust and fluff combined, so get your vacume ready for overtime.

Hope all goes well and once it's all done, it is nice. By the way, who will be moving the furniture? LOL. Good luck.

Lots of people keep their birds in basements full time. If I had a basement, that is where I would put most of my birds! As long as they have some light for the daytime, and a night light at night in case of frights, they should be fine. And they do need to be away from the fumes.
