MY SPY birdhouse - AS SEEN ON TV!

I wonder how everyone thinks about this product.

I see it all the time on tv... its basically a mountable (suction cap) bird house for your window.

Now .... I've been told don't keep looking into the nest, give them privacy etc... well as a newbie I couldn't resist but now I know better.. but seeing as they (mine) were indoors and ive alreayd had them a while they already somewhat knew me.

Do you think these would work for wild birds? Won't they abandon the baby chicks? hmm..
and it says that there is a magic mirror on the back (or you can apply) so you can LOOK IN but they can't see you.
but don't most mirrors scare birds? well i guess it depends.. my rocksteady HATED it and attacked it (the only time i saw him mad ever.)

just wanted to see what everyoe thought of this!
i do have a feeling my in laws will pick it up for me LOL

Don't know how this would work, but the comments under the Amazon link state that it is available from the manufacturer for $15, rather than the $50 that is being charged on Amazon. For $15, it might be worth trying--for $50, I'd pass.

Had one years ago, total waste of money. Left it out till it rotted away and not one birds was interested.

I had a transparent bird feeder on my kitchen window. It was SO much fun to watch the birds come and eat at it. Only problem was it attracted squirrels too. A family member of mine (works in pest control) said to remove it asap, as its a bad idea to attract squirrels (and other rodents) to our house like that. Bummer...but it was fun while we had it

I wouldn't think wild birds would build a nest in a box with an open window in the back, or a mirror. Nice idea, tho.

We had clear bird feeders on the windows when a kid, it was very cool to see the birds up close.

Right now, for winter, we put a plastic tray on top of the window boxes outside our living room window and put the bird seed in them, as the overhang of the roof keeps the rain and snow off. Lots of birds, despite the cats intently staring from inches away right inside the house. Squirrels too, on occasion. All is good, fun to watch, they all share (except the doves, but we chase them away when they stay too long).

Tho, last night, very very late (or very early?) I hear some banging that sounds kinda like car doors or something. So, I get a flashlight and look out, to make sure it isn't someone messing with our cars.

Nope, its a raccoon on the window box eating the seed. He sees the light, and starts looking all around, curious. HELLO???? I am right here four inches away from you on the other side of the window. Nope, doesn't notice me until I tap on the window. Then AAAAAAHHH!!!! he jumps down and runs away, well, about 3 feet away. Every time I turn off the light and drop the curtain, he comes right back, so finally I gave up. Raccoons gotta eat, too, right?

I saw that commercial too and thought about it... the concern I had was if it has a two way mirror.. if it's dark out and your lights are on can they see the light from behind it? I haven't had much experience with two way mirrors, lol. But I would think they would hate it. I was also mad they were naming wild species but showing baby societies, lol. chirpy maybe you could buy it and put your plastic Polly bird inside that you love so much... that DUMB plastic birds, LOL. Omg I can't stop laughing actually thinking of that scenario.

I'm hesitant of the magic mirror too! And if it didn't have anything to block there's absolutely nothing to give them darkness if the lights were on in the house without curtains. Hmmm!!!

And I think the commercial even showed like.. societies at two different ages claiming they were two different types of birds.. both not societies, lol. I actually thought of you when I saw it too! But I know plastic Polly wouldn't mind a clear house with a mirror!

Do you remember those "chicks" you place on your hands that chirp? LOL I loved those as a kid. If I weren't turning 30 this year and was about twenty years younger I would be begging y parents for one I bet LOL! I was pet deprived due to my dads job and is moving around a lot so any "mechanical" animal I had. I'm sure Polly would of been one lol!

It's possible--do you remember the Poochie dogs? We got one for my son. The dog would start it's moving and barking and talking routine, and the longer you went, you would suddenly realize you were hearing:

Clean paws clean paws clean paws kipple kipple kipple otis otis otis otis coushou coushou coushou OH SH*T kipple kipple kipple......

The company (Tiger Toys/Electronics) denied it and denied it until one day I kept the dog running through its routine while I continued arguing with her, right next to the dog so she could hear it the whole time. It finally let fly with the OH SH** and all of a sudden the woman stopped arguing with me and said she'd send me a replacement.

The new dog did not say OH SH**. The new dog, after running for a while, would drop its voice low and deep and mutter something you can't quite catch, but gives you the impression it just growled "you dirty bast**d" at you. Some day going to dig it out of the closet and have someone do an analysis and find out what it actually says. Evidently lots of Poochies had potty mouth. Some subsequent Tiger Toys talking something did, also.

Just imagine...you get a Perfect Polly, and find out it swears like a sailor!!!

(We also had a Tickle Me Elmo that would go off, all on its own, late at night--suddenly shaking and laughing demonically over in the corner where it sat, untouched. We pulled his batteries and returned him to the store!)

Nerien lol.. sounds like my experiences with toys!! And I am positive chirpy has the same luck too! I remember an experience with a Furby that changed it's own name... made up its own language and would no longer talk to anyone unless they spoke it's language... and then eventually sat on the shelf for some... 2 years? Only to randomly go off one day saying, "Toh Lu Kah!!!" and then started laughing and going, "Ahhh? Ahh? Ahhh? Me no like!". Creepiest thing ever. Batteries came out and never went back in. I think my brothers eventually got their hands on it and lit the thing on fire or something.

Sorry to be a downer, but I really don't like this product. Baby birds are so vulnerable, and they don't need people poking them from the back. It would be just like some uncaring people to flick the glass like you see morons doing at the pet store with fish!

Give birds some privacy! If you need to spy on them, use an unobtrusive camera!

Zebrafincher that's my concern too. Like wont they e stressed??? I don't know.. Hmmm! Especially if they are wild birds. I wonderrrrr.


Lol as for toys... I haven't once had anything that go off or say random words. Maybe I haven't caught them in the act!! I think there may of been one of her toys that would go off at random... But I just figured it was low batteries. Lol well I hope it was!!!!! Cause ill be running around crazy!

I also remember when my youngest brother was little.. probably about 1 year old (I have two brothers.. one a year younger and the other 5 years younger) he had this dumb barnyard themed piano toy that would make animal noises if you hit certain keys (the "black" keys) and then play Old Mac Donald if you hit the other keys (the "white" keys) no matter what order you hit them... it would play the next consecutive note. Either the thing was possessed or broken from us bashing it around or the batteries were running out.. but we would hit the keys and it would loop the sounds like a broken record and get stuck making the most absurd noises ever, and then when you hit other keys they would come out in a much deeper demonic sounding version of what they should have been. I was about 6 at the time.. my other brother 5.. and my father was there and it was the most hilarious thing ever. Thinking about it now I can only remember it happening.. not exactly what it sounded like.. but I clearly remember it being the funniest thing ever!! Being that my one brother was so close in age to me.. and years later my mom suddenly showed up with this random child.. he became the brunt of a lot! Poor kid.. a lot of our fun was at his expense. When he was around 1 his favorite word was yes.. and I remember my dad joking around asking things like, "Robert.. do you wanna get a beating?!" and he would get all excited and exclaim, "Yeaaa!!!!!". It probably sounds terrible but it was funny back then! Mostly he was a boring baby that invented his own language and had yellow-orange poofy hair. The kid always fell asleep in his food.. or on the floor in front of the refrigerator.. or anywhere really. Me and my other brother were the kids that would climb up the walls in doorways, jump across furniture, dump all the bath water out the window, wake up extra early to play "barber". But we were always rigging Roberts toys to do crazy things. My dad was an electrician too so that helped. I remember one time he had a video camera he hooked up to the VCR and placed it in the back window to record us on the swings and then we watched it on high speed laughing at it. We were probably incredibly destructive kids.. and unruly at times.. but we definitely learned a lot from disassembling things and certainly had a lot of run with wacky electronic toys! Sorry for the long post though... I randomly remembered all these things!
