You have been a star for me this week. When you showed those water feeders upside down with leaf in them I thought OH WOW that's an awesome idea !!!!

So, when i went to my favourite NEW pet store to buy them from a lovely man, he was so impressed with the idea he was taking some home for himself =D> I bought one for each cage and have used it already. Awesome idea Chirpy....so simply yet so clever !!

I have just seen it is going to be 44 degrees tomorrow and onwards later in the week. So, I doubt my birds will be going outside in the next week. Oh well, gives me more time to decorate the cage =D>

I am still going to have some inside because I AM NOT BUYING ANOTHER AVIARY =)) This is my third, one for my Tiels, one for my Zebs and now this one for my Exotics. I still have the 5 flight cages inside with my Mannikins and some others that wont fit outside. I still want to have some that I can sit in the back room with my cuppa anyways.

Next time you come to Australia, drop into Melbourne and we can have a cuppa amongst the feathers =D>

Our heatwave is coming next week - going to hit the late 30's, bleh... I think I might just set the sprinkler up on the aviary roof, lol!

Rox

That's exactly what we have done. We put the sprinkler up on top of the aviary roof, it made a huge difference !! and as I was going out every half and hour or so topping up their water, it was nice getting a sprinkle myself =D>

My water bill is going to be huge, but I would rather that than lose any of my feathered friends. I will have to rig up another sprinkler for the new aviary.

Don't worry Rox there will be lots of photos once it is all setup =D>

Mands :D COOL! I hated seeing the "fresh" vegetable wilt esp in the summer... who wants crappy veggies right!!

What happened to the beautiful summers of australia.. When I was in Sydney I loved summer there was wind... so breezy and we would sit at a cafe all day. Now, ... not sure if i can do that with the summer temps you are dealing with. I have lots of friends on FB from HS they are all talking about how hot it is and reminding everyone to put out some water for the wildlife.
I loved the wildlife there... though the 7 kookaburras outside my bedroom window was never fun. BUT the magpies were so adorable they ate from my hand and those 40 lorikeets that came by every 6pm.. the fruit bats.. galass!! blue tongue lizards.. I wish I were back there again but my friends are telling me how they want to buy a house and they cant simply afford one. A lot of them are moving back home with their spouse to save up money.

wow... I must be in a rambling mood again.

It wasn't beautiful this last week. We had 4 days over 40 degrees. The wildlife were really suffering. The bats and pigeons in the trees were just dropping onto the ground with exhaustion in the city. We had to have the sprinkler over the aviaries for the whole 4 days even during the night as there was no break in the weather at all. Thank god it is only 24 today, but still very humid.

My aviary arrived yesterday and the men are out doing the concrete as I type right now. I went to the pet shop this morning and bought all the water bowls and nests and things that i will need to set it up, it was like a kid in a candy shop, I had been saving up so i had some fun.

I will be sure to post pics when it is all setup.

Mands Theres no water restrictions for the moment? Hope there are no bushfires going around.. imagine if you had that heat AND water restrictions that would be horrible.

chirpy and it is getting longer by the day !!! I have become obsessed with Zebras. I love all the colours you can get with them. So, I have an aviary just for those with about 16 in it now, 6 babies this week =D> but I am also strong enough to sell the babies UNLESS there is something spectacular that I want to keep. I love anything pied and I have a few pied zebs now so I am looking forward to seeing what comes of that.

My original Societies are now grandparents. I had a look in the nest today and there are 6 eggs in with the Chocs/Gingers. Hopefully all goes well with this clutch as well. Last one with a different clutch had 6 and that was huge, you should have seen all 6 and mum and dad piled in the nest at night, I had to tie the nest up with cable ties to strengthen it lol

I can't wait to get all my exotics outside in the sunshine where they can fly and breed to their own delight =D>
