Help I just got a pair of red factor canary?

I just got this pair they are hyper and lively but look how beat up they look?

How old are they? They might be moulting. Just give them a varied diet with a lot of fresh greens and see how they go.

i am not sure but i know they have been bred


its winter time tho they were kept in a very hot area with lots of light could that be way?

Should i feed red factor canary food?

One thing is when i brought them home i put them in the doves cage till i got their cage ready i came out of the bathroom and my cat had a hold of one of them and was going to pull it out of the cage right into the dogs mouth

I pulled my cat off and the canary got free and seemed okay

this has never happened to me before i had no idea the cat was down there, usually my dog comes with me down not the cat

i also wanted to say this cat is very fat and lazy i never see her move shes old also and she turned into a monster like she was not the same cat anymore, so you can understand i was in shock i did not expect something like that to happen or even the cat able to catch a bird through the cage

You need to leave them in peace to adjust to their new home, preferably in their own private cage.
And the trauma of being caught by a cat did not help their stress level, so you need to keep an eye on them.

If they are molting, then give them lots of egg food, morning and evening.
AND at that time, red factor additives, if you want to. But be careful on the dosage, as too much could damage their liver.
Try to get then to eat red veggies; beets, carrots, red bell pepper, chilli, etc.
There is a particular natural substance that gives them that red color, and it is in certain veggies. You have to research that, as I forget what it is.
My wife's red factor will NOT eat red bell pepper, but will eat most everything else I give him.

Now, now, it's very possible. I have a cat and two cages of finches and have had no issues. It is vital, of course, cages NOT be anywhere within the cat's range.

Do they look like they are molting from the pictures? missing head and breast feathers a bit, just look rough.

no one would take this cat, i foud her dumped as a baby 8 years ago now she has health issues

she lived with birds the whole time this was just strange and it did not help the dog was edging her on

they are in their own room now i just want their feathers to go grow back and be healthy again i never heard of molting in the winter i think the person who had them was using to o much light

canidpets Mine lost all her tail feathers and she looked very odd. It did come back very quickly though.. I gave her egg food and crushed eggshells (they always have eggshell and cuttle bone in their cage) just to help her out.

I have a cat too.. she doesnt bother them. she doesn't even care for them.

If you want your red factor canaries to stay red, you have to feed them "red factor food" during the moult. Personally, a prefer the more "natural", orangy/red coloration, and you can achieve that by just offering veggies with red pigment. (carrots, beets, sweet potato, red cabbage, etc.)
As far as cats, we got our first indoor cat five months ago, and she has a very strong prey drive. With caution, constant supervision and corrections, she's made huge improvements as to not trying to go after the birds. Sometimes she will sit at the foot of the cage for a half hour actually looking like she just enjoys observing them. I don't fully trust her around them unsupervised, but I believe someday I will.
Some people say you cant have a pit bull alone in a house full of small animals, but I've had mine for twelve years without incident. Training, training, training. Bob

Lots of good food. Hard boiled eggs,meal worms and a variety of veggies and fruit. Were they like that when you got them, or did this just start after youve had them for a while? Might be stress due to move, due to cat.Having said that, I have two cats and two dogs. No major problems that a spray bottle of water doesnt solve.Lol. Give them time.

Hi again. They are really cute. Do you know how old they are? Are they from a breeder or a pet shop? That vibrant red colour might be due to having been fed red moulting food during their last molt wherever that was. I just feed natural foods during molt ( as Bob mentioned) However, if they were fed ' red food' and they are moulting for whatever the reason, you might find that the new feathers will come in orange, which simply might be their natural colour. Are you getting a lot of feathers all over the place? Are they having regular baths? which my guys love. Try different foods as aformentioned and only time will tell. Goodluck with new babies. Oh, forgot to ask, do you what gender they are? Just curious.
