how much full spectrum lighting?

Post by rancho2 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 10:15 am

hope this isn't too redundant but i couldn't find an exact answer for this question. my cage is 64" long. i have 2 aquarium hoods that hold 2 full spectrum bulbs each about 10" above the cage. are 4 bulbs too much? would 2 or 3 bulbs work better? i don't want to overdo it with the lighting but i'm not sure what the best thing to do is. thanks for any suggestions on this. :-)

I'm sure one full spectrum would work fine, 4 may be a bit too much

Here's a helpful article on full spectrum for avian vision. Check out the "placement" and "MOUNTING LOCATION AND DISTANCE" section

What is the length of the aquarium hoods? I have 4' shop lights over my double flights (64" long), with two 40w T12 or T8 fluorescent bulbs in each.

2 are 18" with a 12" in the middle for the moonlight bulb.

What is the wattage of the bulbs? If you have four 15w bulbs, that equals 60w, which would not be too much.

that's exactly what i have and i never thought to add the wattage. i have it timed to go on about 8:00 am and off at 4:30 pm. should i do more? less? i'm not going to breed any of them.
