can a bird be a double split?

Post by lonchura_boi » Mon Feb 10, 2014 3:45 pm

i know only a little about zebra generics, and im confused. so far as i know, fawn and CFW are both sex linked genes, meaning only males can be split for this gene. but can a male be split for both? i have a pair for zebras, hen is black cheeked normal, the cock is normal and i knew he was split for something (the pale brown edging on his secondries and wing coverts a give away). first chick they fledge is fawn, so obviously a female and assume he is split fawn. but of the 6 chicks, there are 4 greys, 1 fawn and 1 CFW... i have no other zebras so no chance someones been playing away....

To my understanding a male could be double split for both fawn and CFW. I have a pair that gives me CFW and fawn while the male Is visually a grey BF. Its also possible to get a fawn CFW but very uncommon. I think a genetic cross over has to take place.
