Okay, so now I'm ready to go one further, but hoping someone can advise on the parts I would need.
I have a big A&E double flight full of budgies (parakeets) right now, and two single flights of parrotlets. My finches all love their little bird-bath jars, but not the bigger birds. Watched the two sister parrotlets walking around in their jar, wings open, but not splashing or getting more than their feet and bellies wet. However, when I spray with the little squirt bottle on mist, they love it. So do many of the parakeets, but only some bath in a pan of water, no one will use a covered bath or jar, and they make a big mess in the open pan.
So...seeing family eat cheese puffs from that huge round jar, I pictured the jar in the big cage, with an opening cut into the side, maybe a half inch to inch of water in the bottom, AND MIST SPRAYING INSIDE FROM A NOZZLE IN THE TOP. Then went a step further, and have a drain hose coming out of the jar and into a bucket down below, so that the mist is constantly refreshing the water in the jar, and it doesn't become too dirty all at once.
So, now looking for a mister that I could use for this. Review on the less-expensive reptile misters are terrible. the expensive ones are, well, expensive, and not all the review are good, either. See one that is a fogger, does a fogger make mist that a bird would like, or is it really more like fog? Found this site, it's for a "personal mister", would that amount/force of spray be too hard? It has a shut off valve, going to ask the company if that can be used to reduce the force.

Any other ideas to make this happen? I'd much rather have the mist-shower contained in a big jar than the mess (and smell) from spraying down the birds all over the cage.

I would check out someplace like Home Depot in their drip watering system section!! Lots of nozzles and tips there, inc. misting.
We bought that for my chameleon vs. one of the expensive "reptile" ones.
Love the drip system section!
At ours, it is right next to the plumbing section.

Nerien that website you linked also has a bird mister!!
I wonder how good it works? It connects to a garden hose or faucet like the other one.. but for $19?? I would look into how it works though because it might need a significant amount of pressure to work... and I am obviously not an expert on pumps and faucets and misters!!

I know, but the personal mister has a shutoff valve.fhgwgads wrote: Nerien that website you linked also has a bird mister!!

They give psi for it to work, and say that that is standard public water supply pressures, but I have a well, so I don't know what my pressure really is (the gauge on the water tank is only an approximation, but I'm sure it's not 45psi). But it looks like the spray comes out of there with considerable force, for a mist, I wonder if that would be too much for the birds? A few like being squirted directly, most object to anything but falling mist, so you squirt in their direction but above, so it falls on them, I think they'd object to a forceful mister.
Home Depot or Lowes is a good idea. Will have to take a look at what they have, IF it ever stops snowing on us.

Re: Misting Bird Bath Jar?
I also bought the battery powered mister for my cham. High recommendations for people with arthritic hands but want or have birds, reptiles or even plants that need lots of misting.
And it works! I have dropped mine, left it outside in rain after using to spray down flare up on BBQ and it still works.

Don't go by that price. I got mine for like $15, 2 yrs ago. Had to check around. And Zoo Med also makes one for birds.

Re: Misting Bird Bath Jar?
Nerien you certainly don't want to be blowing your birds out of the jar!! Lol.. I was just curious if it would not work at all below 45? I didn't realize the valve.. I just saw the bird one was pointed down. I'm not good with these things though so I won't pretend to be. Maybe you could just get a small pump for like a little rock waterfall and somehow attach a mini nozzle.. or something at the end of the house to force the water into a light spray. But who knows! I wish I could help more!
