Coffe Grinder for chopping up ????

One of you on the forum (was it you, Debbie 276?) mentioned using a coffee grinder for food prep for birds. Whoever, it was THANK YOU
Today I bought TWO coffee grinders at GoodWill, $2.99 each. One is a Hamilton Beach Custom Grind & one a Saltoni.
I had bought some Ecotrition Nestling food, & it contained some brown pellet wafers which my birds weren't eating; they seemed to love the seed blend however.
I picked out all the pellets from the blend & ground them up to powder & put them back in the seeds. Wholah !!!!

Now I wonder what else you (whoever you are) used the blender for to chop up foodstuffs. I'm intrigued & havin' fun

Great idea, I have used a separate coffee grinder for the birds for grinding pellets to a powder to add to eggfood, recipes.

Just an observation from someone that uses pellets and seed for years...when birds eat pellets they grind it and the powder left behind goes between the seed and is left at the bottom of the bowl, they may not get the benefit since most the powder will end up at the bottom. Try adding the pellets to the eggfood or sprinkled on top of moist foods. Some of the pellets in the seed mix are hard and sometimes stale, try Zupreem or Roudybush or Lafebers...all good.

I have purchased oyster shells for poultry and ground them down for finches in a coffee grinder.

Eggshells. Dry them well and they grind just fine. Laying hens go through almost a half teaspoon per day.
I sometimes add larger chunks of commercial dry egg food or bits of eggwhite for protein to the chopped up shells.
Anything moist gets mushy and has to be well dried afterwards.

I burned out two grinders doing that!!!!!

I used a coffee grinder for grinding pellets, worked great.
But not so for egg shells. The egg shells were quickly turned to powder which got everywhere, when I opened the grinder. I now use a mortar and pestle to grind the egg shells.
