Two problems

Post by bdotan01 » Thu Feb 13, 2014 7:38 am

Hello all,

I am having two isuues with my gouldian pair:

The hen - is constantly sleepy. she is not puffed or sick like, just sleepy. she had been laying infertile eggs and lately two chicks hatched. one was dropped. What could be the problem?

The cock - a long time ago I accsidently cliped my goudian cock small finger. Ever since he has had troubles flying. he falls to the cage bottum allot. What could be the problem?

Thank you!

Sounds as if you need to build up your birds health wise before any more breeding. A varied diet with hard boiled eggs added would be a good start. Let them rest and recover from whatever ails them.

Constant eyes blinking and/or closed eyes can be a sign of dehydration, are you sure she is getting water?

No idea what could be wrong with your male, clipping the toe has nothing to do with the ability to fly.

how long ago on the clipped finger? Could he be fighting some sort of low grade infection? Any other signs? Sounds strange. For hen I'd suggest some calcium too.

All good suggestions. Also, I'd take out any nests so the hen has a break or separate the pair.

Hey Debbie!
I noticed she really doesn't drink.
What should I do?

Are you using water bottles? I would give them a large dish of water so they can also bathe

I wouldn't add anything till you are sure she is drinking well. Sounds like she may not be drinking on those days you are adding vitamins.
