how do you name this canary
Hi. I am Canary Mary. This is my first post. I have a canary I dont know how to name. His/her eyes are still red, and now 2 months old. I think that makes it a fawn. Its wings look fawn. Its belly iswhite but on its chest there is a bit of yellow. Does this make it a variegated fawn? I tried to load a photo but the photo is too large and I dont have a clipping function, well , that I know of. Hoping someone can help. I think it may be a female because it is quite light in colour, any comments please.

Hi Mary.
Glad to hear you have a new bird.
It sounds quite interesting, especially it's colours. I have never seen a red eyed, fawn canary before.
To tell the difference between male and female, you have to wait until HE starts to sing, or SHE doesn't. Only males will sing, while females will chirp. Colour is not an indicator of gender as far as I recall.
When you post some pictures, people will be able to help you a bit more.
For now enjoy your new baby, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome! You can save your photo to your desktop and when you first click save as, you can reduce the size of the image. I usually pic medium. Then I add the pic to my posts, from the desktop pic I saved. Look forward to seeing pics of your canary baby!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Here is an informative site on sexing canaries, but remember that the pictures only pertain to mature adults in breeding condition. http://www.westernwaterslager.com/text/ ... Sexing.htm A picture of yours would help in trying to identify the variety. Bob

Re: how do you name this canary
thanks guys. I will try and get a photo reduced as Deborah suggested. Perhaps you will see him / her soon. I have another fawn, shes a Fife, white with a tiny tiny fleck of brown on her feathers. Shes got red eyes too. But I have been confused over the yellow parts of the one I am querying, he/she was born from a half gloster orange coronia and a common avocado cinnamin. I'm trying to get different colours. The orange coronia looks all like a true gloster, which I believe dont come in orange. Oops, cant work out how to save picture from the desktop deborah to load a photo of the canary in question, any tips? I have windows XP.Thanks
