Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
Thanks Ginene.
It's good to know that there are no 'special' needs that my new Greens will need. So just regular finch care is easy, already do that anyway. Will need a a little flight for them soon as I don't want to throw them in with Luciano (canary boy) and the rest of the gang.
What do you folks think of 'Harper' and 'Willow' for names?
I'm afraid 'Gimpy' will just be Gimpy, even if might not be politically correct.

Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
Day two with the new kids:
Harper and Willow, the Green Singers are settling in nicely in their small temporary apartment (why does that make me think of our Chirpy? )
So far no singing, but little peeu, tweet, tweet sounds which are quite pleasent to hear. They are talking to each other and doing this little kissy thing with their beaks, which is quite cute. They are eating and drinking and keeping an eye on everything. They went after spray millet and cuke, like it's going out of style and are now checking out some apple and a romaine leaf.
Then there is Gimpy. This guy just steals your heart, he is so damn cute, with a face that only a mother would love. He puffs up like a tiny bloat fish and breaks into his song and dance routine and everyone stops to listen. His little song is quite different from Petey and Pauly, and those two little feathers omg. He's enjoying his food with the appetite of a starving tiger and making use of his little swing. He doesn' seem to realize that there is anything wrong with his foot. Just gotta love'em.

Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
In my book you "bingoed"!!! Great find and great prices for the green singers....and poor Gimpy...he's too cute. I would not have left without all of them either. I am on the "finch rescue" call list at Petsmart. I have a one legged spice finch named "Ziggy"...she got the name after her surgery to remove the badly broken leg. Ziggy would land on a perch, not used to having only one leg and "zig zag" left to right trying to get her balance....But now you could never tell anything is wrong with her. The only ones that know are the male spices! They try to mate her but she can't keep that balance long enough and "Zigs" out of the way!

Hi Jenny.
I bet Ziggy is ok with the one leg, just playing hard to get with those boys, lol.
I didn't know petsmart had a rescue list. Does that mean that they call you every time they have a sick or injured birdie? That's kind of a cool idea and one I'd never heared of before.
As for little Gimpy, his foot is sort of twisted funny. Must have been some sort of a nestling injury, because he appears to be very young still and quite small. I'll try to post another picture of him, where his foot is easier to see.

- Not the best picture, but you can see how his foot twists in an odd way.

Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
Gimpy is really cute. I can see why he caught your eye. He looks real confident and I'm sure he will not need "special care" really. He seems just fine. Foot and all. I had a baby like that once too. The foot just never straightened out in the nest. All the nest mates were fine. That one got along just fine. Never knew the difference. Was no good for breeding though as he could not mate and hold on to a hen.
The green singers are great. 2 years is young yet. Canaries live for far longer and that is a deal of a price. Rewards for your kind heart taking in Gimpy!
When you Singer sings, you'll just love it!

Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
Thanks Monotwine.
I'm looking forward to Harper's song. Does the female green sing as well? And do they sound similar to canary song? Right now they are still kinda shy. They tweet, and when I glance at them, they get quiet right away. But hey, it's only been one day.
Little Gimps has no such qualms. Not a shy bone in his whole tiny bod, and he can sure belt out a song. He sings so hard that the two feathers on his head quiver and his whole body just vibrates. I'm so glad I got him.

Re: Oh boy, I did it again.....
Green Singer hens don't sing, but they make calls to their mate that are short and vary in pitch. The male GS has a beautiful song. I prefer the GS song to canaries, but I'm partial to GS anyways.

Thanks for comments my friends. I am glad I picked them up.
Now my problem with 'housing' as you will see in my other post about Petco and amazon.com. This has really thrown a wrench into my plans.
