A Chopped Feast!!!!

Those look wonderful. I've been buying the bunches of whole kale leaves, just got a bag of chopped-up kale to try. Your birds are very lucky!

I buy both types of kale too. I chop the kale in the bag in my ninja. I serve the large leaves clipped to the cage bars and placed on the cage floor. My finches prefer their kale in leaves and their broccoli chopped!!! Lol! Fussy little ones...

I chop it and serve it...if I give the javas whole leaves of kale and romaine it they have a nest the leaf ends up as nesting material. I have to check nest boxes and retrieve the leafs.

Tasty entrée for the day..... Couscous, chopped corn & broccoli, AviVita Gold (vitamins, minerals & amino acids), spirulina, Dry steel cut oats & a side of Roudybush Tuscan Recipe soak and feed.

These are really great nutritious meals. That's why your birds always look so good!

Lately I've been buying the pre mix "sweet kale 7 super foods " salad kit from Costco for myself but also put the salad part in my food processor for the birds every day. It's fantastic! And chops into tiny finch bite size crumbles. I often will add the costco organic kale to it, to green it up a bit more. That kale is very fine and tender but chops well when added with the other mix due to its sturdier structure. It's not mushy at all.

I have considered the mixed green bags of veggies, I have a very large flock so I would do as you do and add extra veggies to it.

I find the chopped kale in the bags a lot easier to work with and chop...it is not to high in water content to make it mushy. Same with turnip greens and collard greens.

Today's dinning experience....cooked quinoa, finely chopped yellow squash, carrots and celery (de-rib if using bigger pieces), Roudybush pellets, seed and a sprinkling of AviTech Cal-D-Solve on each serving.

Yummy of the day!! Chopped romaine and sun dried tomatoes, chopped walnuts for Pixie and me.....cooked quinoa and diced tangerines. This was really tasty, I had some to!!! I serve quinoa about twice a week.

Cindy, my Java finches won't eat this when I fix it. Do you use the herb packet that comes with the quinoa & couscous? I didn't because it contains garlic powder & didn't know if that was ok. It seemed sticky when done. I mixed the chopped kale, grated carrot, couscous, rolled oats, added grated egg on the side & sprinkled seed on top to attract interest. The female, Cinnamon, didn't eat any & the male, Roxstar, picked at it. I must be doing something wrong. Also, for the sun dried tomatoe do you use the moist packaged ones that contain sulfur dioxide or the ones packed in water or oil? Is the sweet corn cooked or raw? I will try the other recipes & hope they will eat this nutritious food. In the mean time, I'm enjoying the bird food too!

I do not use the herb packs or the boxes with it in it, to much salt and additives. I buy bags of plain quinoa and couscous. The sundried tomatoes were organic, I use frozen corn warmed not boiled.


I did another today using ground flaxseed, steel cut oats (uncooked), couscous, chopped corn, carrots, baby peas (frozen veggies warmed not boiled) and vitamins.


Often you need to try more than once to get them to try something, javas are sensitive and leery often of new things...all mine go right to the plates.

Looks from the photos like you might be chopping your greens much finer than I do. I always have kale around, i buy the pre-chopped bags. And I've been cutting it 'small' but they seem to just throw it around.
