My Zebra Finch pair have 2 hatchlings and four un hatched eggs. The hatchlings are a week old so I do not have hope for the other eggs. But my guestion is, they do feed and care for the little ones but the male chases the female violently around the cage, he wants to mate, they make a terrible racket and it gets pretty intense, is this just finch behavior??? This is their first clutch and they are six months old.

To be honest, I would probably remove the male and let mom take care of the baby in peace until it fledges.
Hopefully someone with Zebra experience will chime in, but that behavior sounds excessive to me.

It is just so confusing, the male is in feeding right now. I will watch more closely, you maybe right I may have to separate them. Seems like it would be hard for her to raise on her own.
