Gouldians Molting: Sunlight or heat lamp?

Post by FINCHIE » Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:59 am

My Gouldians are really stressed, they are going through a heavy molt and are not looking good (fluffed up and sleepy). I have them in a hospital cage, should I be placing them in the direct sun (with one part of the cage in the shade) for heat, or use a heat lamp?

Thanks...

I would give them some extra heat and some supplements. Do you have any type of feather fast of anything similar to that?

Egg food is really good for molting birds, too, as they need lots of extra protein right now. Gouldians have a hard time than most species, so anything you can give them that will provide extra protein will help.

Thanks for your posts. They had egg food, grated boiled egg, iodine in water and seed etc ... but I lost my favourite Gouldian last night. It was the first molt I had been through with him and the breeder was dodgy as anything (when I bought them he had ASM and was continually sick). My worst loss...i feel terrible
