RC CB male -Mr. Blue - happy to be alone

Post by RC Cordon Bleu lover » Wed Apr 09, 2014 2:25 pm

Well, I finally got my RC CB hen to put with my RC CB male after his mate died around 3 months ago. What a disappointment! I even bought 2 hens just in case he did not like one of them. I bought a new flight cage so he would not think, ... this cage is mine! ...He looked at her for all of 5 minutes and then tried to chase her out of town. So, he will remain single. I think that CB's are the hardest to catch. They are so small and so fast. Anyway, I put her in her own cage with the other female and she is happy in there. Everyone is happy. I don't mean to sound so disappointed, but I am. But... as long as everyone is happy now. I think I will only have males in the future. I love my females, but when they die, that is it.
I had the same problem with my Gouldians. He loves her for awhile, then he seems to get real rough with her. Mrs. Gouldian (Nalla) is also in her own cage. Well, that makes 6 cages, that is enough.

I love them all, just in separate cages. It is so nice to watch a peaceful cage.

Sorry to hear about your male rejecting both of your hens :( . Don't these guys know that they are suppose to be a passive species??? I have an aggressive BCCB male that cant live with anyone except for an equally aggressive society male. They are definitely the Odd Couple in my otherwise peaceful bird room. I purchased 2 BCCB males together, as I didn't want to breed them but love their song and color. They never "really" got along and I had to separate them early on because the aggressive one would continuously attack the other. Of coarse the sweet one passed away after only having him for 3 months...and so the odd couple have been together ever since :| . I considered getting a BCCB hen for my lone male (would cost me about $160 with airline shipping), but I am afraid that he would just beat her to death. I think I will just leave things the way they are for now. Good luck with your guys...maybe your male will warm up to a hen after a while. :)

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. I just lost my hen as well, same species. The pet store I got the pair from was going to get me a hen, but the breeder doesnt have any right now. So I am going to go with a pretty albino. Society finch from a breeder I found. But good luck going forward! They are so pretty and having a huge colony of them would be awesome..but not possible. Keep trying!

Thank you for your support. It was a long wait for these RC CB hens and it was very disappointing that he rejected them. There is nothing I like to do more then watch my peaceful cages of birds, so that beating on her was not going to work. Anyway, the 2 girls are in there own cage doing well and the male has a nice 30 x 18 Petco flight cage for himself. He seems pretty happy now. It has been 3 months since his mate died. My 4 Society finches get along great in their own cage and my 2 Owl finches are happy in their own cage. My Gouldian likes it by himself also. All is good now. I just needed to vent. Thanks.

Hi RC Cordon Bleu lover,

Finches and Canaries can be fairly pernickity about their companions. I relate to what you mentioned re: your existing bird, and the two new hens. I had a red faced Star finch, Fruit, in the past, and got a fawn or yellow faced male, Merl, as a companion. The two hated each other, and had to be placed in individual cages away from each other. Otherwise it was aggression at the side of the cagea. They calmed down after a while, but I could never have Fruit with any other bird (in the same cage)! He was in love with his mirror, and hated other birds.

Good luck with them.

Kind Regards
