Wanting cage size to finch ratio...
Hi--I'm new to this forum and also have questions on cage size and number of birds housed.
I'm am in the process of getting a flight cage 30W x 18D x 38H and want to know if I can have 2 birds or two pair. I was thinking of two male Zebra and two male Society finches.
I would appreciate all and any advice.
Thank you,
Barb

That should hold 4 birds, especially if all will be same sex and no chance of babies. I would not house Zebras with Societies though. Zebs too agressive.

Welcome to the forum Barb
. I agree with Lori... 4 birds is fine, but 2 zebras are a bit aggressive to be housed with societies.

Thank you all for your info. Maybe four male Zebras, different colors, would work. Any other suggestions?

Four is a bad number for zebras, but wonderful for societies, which aren't aggressive.
If you really pack all the corners with a variety of foliage, perches, and nests, that cage is big enough - just - for up to six male societies in my experience. I have 6 of mixed genders in mine. I would not add any more, but the way it is set up is plenty roomy enough for such a sociable species.

I tend to agree with Dylan...4 male zebras spells trouble. They are beautiful, funny and super active...but they also tend to be very aggressive. There are many other beautiful types of finches that can live with societies...Go to the Finch Information Center link at the top/left of this page and check out the HOUSING section. It has suggestions for mixed aviaries/cages.

Thank you, Ginene, for directing me to the Finch Info Center.
If I understand it correctly and please tell if I am wrong because I do not want to make any mistakes, could have 2 male Zebras and 2 male Java Sparrows or more? I really like Zebras so maybe just have 2 males but then I think I want more then just 2 birds--ugh
Any other ideas for combinations of 4 or 6 for cage size?
Please help, I'm open to all ideas for this "newbie"

Why don't you tell us what birds are available near you and we can help you pick out some for your new cage? That's easier than us chiming in with birds you don't have access to.
