New addition and chicks

Post by Smurf » Thu May 01, 2014 2:49 pm

Bought 2 new cock red faced parrot finches yesterday, 1 is normal coloured and this is 2nd

Image

He's supposed to be split for lutino which i can't find much info on the genetics of, possibly sex linked if like the red eyed lutino blue faced

This is hen i'm pairing him to

Also took a quick photo of a nest of chicks from another pair, i'm not sure exactly how many chicks are in nest but fairly sure i counted 5 heads when i did nest check about 2 weeks ago

Congrats! They look good. The Lutino mutation is sex linked recessive.

Thanks for the comments, i'm thrilled that the red faced parrot finches are finaly parent rearing with chicks very close to 'on the perch', the breeding cock is soo flighty and he also has the hen the same since they were paired up. The addition of the 2 new cocks means i've gone from 1 breedable pair, 3 hens and a cock firing blanks to possibly 3 breeding pairs.

To get lutino red faced chicks would be amazing and was extremely lucky to get a split bird as they are so rare being a brand new mutation. If they are sex linked the're should be hens amongst any chicks, if the're like the black eye'd lutino BF then it would take at least 2 generations. I did try asking a guy in the UK who breeds the lutino RF but he wasn't very forthwith with info and was more interested about where and how i got the bird and cost.

For the moment i'm very happy with any coloured fledglings and hopeful of more in the future :)
