I would never medicate a bird that is not sick. Supplements yes!

I just have Gouldians and Societies, I give them FVite, Charcoal, Cuttlebone, kelp. Also use Dr Rob Marshall stuff. I use Feather Fast when molting. I never medicate a bird if it is not sick.

I agree, never medicate unless it is necessary. If you give your birds a varied diet above their basic finch mix that includes vegetables, mineral mix, egg food, spray millet, they should be healthy.

I always keep liquid calcium on hand in case of egg binding in hens, and I have SCATT and/or S76 in case of mites. As for medicines, a few basics such as Amoxitex and Ronex. I no longer keep a huge supply of medications on hand, since I use them so rarely.

I keep a pile of meds on hand, in case I ever need them, but they will probably all expire before I have to use any. Always good to have a few basics on hand in case of Emergency. I have had to use liquid calcium a few times, and was thankful That I had it.

Good advice up above! One more thing I like to use is "Herb Salad." I will attach the link. It is really good for healthy birds and prevention of illness. http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/product_herbsalad.php

So, if you had finches for a couple months and they seem healthy, you would not treat for mites/worms/ etc as a preventive? You'd simply feed well, and with the supplements mentioned?

(I have a cart open on ladygouldian. I would much prefer buying 'fun' stuff but feel like I should maybe use some S76 and cocci-care??)
Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.

If you've already had them for a couple of months, they've basically passed the quarantine test already. As mentioned by others, it is good to have a few things on hand, but I don't go overboard. For just a couple of finches, I prefer SCATT to S76, because it has a 21-day residual effect, and I don't have to treat for 3 weeks in a row.

If I think new birds might have been in an outside aviary, exposed to wild birds, then I will treat for worms during quarantine, but if I know where they came from (an indoor facility), I might skip the wormer.

Got it. Thank you, Sally.

For some reason I had in my head I needed to treat them...but I couldn't find anything that said so! Maybe because with a dog, you would start flea/heartworm/dewormer program. ;) I'm a dog person.

They're from a very small breeder, 4 pairs of zebras, my babies plus I think 6 more in the nests.
They seem a bit too itchy though (or are finches more itchy than cockatiels?). So I may do the SCATT or S76.
