Roseanne is unwell.. :(

Post by chirpy » Wed May 28, 2014 10:27 am

I have for give soc's. Roseanne and rocksteady te parents and three kids in a f040.

The past few nights (they are in my master bedroom) they have has night frights for no reason.

I woke today as I heard weird noises..

Roseanne is panting, wiping her beak on the perch, and sounds like an old squeaky dog toy. It isn't a clicking.
I haven't dont anything out of the normal.
She is not as energetic, isn't curled up or sleeping. Then again maybe she can't..? With the other four being healthy.

What do you suggest I do? Move her to a smaller cage? This means I will have to catch her which will stress her out more... :(
I am so sad, my cockatiel died and I couldn't save her I don't want the same with big Roseanne.

Many thanks upfront.

So sorry Roseanne isn't feeling well. For now, I'd catch her up and put her in another cage with a heat lamp for warmth and just keep an eye on her. Check her droppings, and watch to see if she is eating and drinking normally.

Sally okay thank you Sally!
The cage I have is quite small not sure of the measurement a but probably 18x20inch. Would that be okay? Or is it better she's not as mobile...

Do you think the night fright may have caused her to stress therefore she's panting?

What is with the old dog toy noise?

Sorry for the Qs. :( not fun to wake up to them sick :(

Also if the cage is small I don't know how I would make sure she's not overheated? As in.... The cage is small and the lamp is quite big so I think it would heat the whole cage?

Flooding my own thread! :P

So her weird chirping stopped and is quite loud again. Eating and drinking.
Should I put the lamp on the f040 so the others can benefit from it too and observe?

If she is seeming back to normal, you could always put a lamp on one end of the cage, aimed at one perch, then Rosanne or any others that want a little warmth can go there. I've found that they find that warm spot when they want it.

As far as the night frights, my birds have that once in a while too, and I usually have no idea why. They have a night light, but I think once one bird freaks, the others do in response to the first one.

Just keep an eye on her. Hope she is feeling better now.

Sally thank you again Sally!!!

So she is now:
Eating
Drinking
Playing in the vines
Preening and getting preened
Perhaps some harder breathing no more beak gasping

Its hard to tell if she is puffy because she's a big girl as it is... I will put the lamp above their rope perch which is there number two spot but not their regular roosting perch.
I hope the night fright is what caused this - I say this as I hope its not an illness...

In goin to treat them to some egg food.

Ginene@delray

Thank you :)

I have their light set up and when I was hooking it up they were going nuts again (you all know how finches act when ANYTHING is moved and something NEW is placed) and she started doing that:
Mouth gaping, old dog toy noise again.

So perhaps she does this when she is extremely distressed? She has never done it before but the double night fright may have done it :(

I hooked it up and left for shopping etc and came back and from of the birds were hanging out under it (oooh ahhhh warmth <3) and Roseanne was eating cuttle.

I hope she is okay.. she seems other wise but they always "seem" okay and get weak... *sigh*

But thank you for the concern, so good to know you all have my back if something were to happen!

Hi Chirps.
I would keep light on one end of cage just to offer extra heat to whomever wants it. Is it possible that there might be an egg issue? How old is our girl?
I really hope that things will improve.
. Eggs and shells might not hurt. Also some vit D drops, if they don't get sunlight.

Hugs and best wishes.

Yes I put the heat in... George who is clearly NOT sick is loving the warmth. Roseanne will perch below that rope perch (nearest to heat) and relax. She's still breathing heavier than normal but she hasn't stopped eating or stopped drinking.
Is it advisable to NOT give them a bath?

I don't know if she is egg bound she hasn't pluffed all too much and is not on the cage floor or lethargic. I hope there is no drama/night fright tonight. She needs rest as do all of them :(

They are all happily chirping away :)

lovezebs hi!
No night fright last night!
I crept into my room quite late and they were on their roosting spot. Daddy/Rocksteady were in the food bowl by himself - why? Lol don't know. I woke to go to the bathroom later and saw he wasn't tere anymore. So I take it he flew back to te family later and that didnt spas them out thank god.

They all sound good. Haven't had the time to take a good look at Roseanne yet. Hope she's better. How long should I keep the lamp in them for?
