Hi all! I have a quick question about ronivet. I treated all birds with ronivet 12% for seven days before breeding season. How soon do I need to treat again? All my pairs have eggs, hatchlings, or fledglings. I do have society fosters and have introduced new birds ( society and gouldian) since I last treated.
Thanks!!

Re: Ronivet 12% question
I personally would not recommend treating routinely with any medication.
Ronivet is used to treat protozoa such as Trichomoniasis (canker) Cochlosoma and Giardia, have your birds been sick,, the treatment of a week should have made them better then without further treatments.
Resistance to medications is common when they are used indiscriminately 3 to 4 times per year.

Re: Ronivet 12% question
Thanks Debbie! I agree. The directions say to treat again after fledging but I wasn't sure if I should treat all or just the fledglings since I did introduce new society birds into the room.

Re: Ronivet 12% question
I don't believe in preventative treatments either with the exception of society fosterers, i always treat new societies with ronidazole ( 5 days on, 2 off, 5 on ) whilst in quarantine, some uk breeders also treat societies routinely every 6 months but it's questionable/debatable as to whether this treatment totaly cures cochlosoma or just puts it into remission.

I treat my new finches and fledges, but not routinely. I only treat if someone is sick.

I agree with Debbie!
I do treat everyone with a round when acquiring them and they are in quarantine....after that the birds do not get treated with medications unless sick or showing symptoms.
