Best site to buy HQ double flight cage
Hi all. I'm new to the site. I'm a finch wannabe, no birds yet. I am looking to get some for my home office though--I work from home several days a week. It is nice and quiet in there.
I am looking to adopt a group of 7 finches from a rescue, the HQ double flight seems like it should work for them. They apparently have been together for a while in much smaller confines. If the HQ cage turns out to be too small, I'll build something, but this should work for at least a while.
Any recommendations as to this cage, in particular, where to buy it?
I'm in northern California, Sacramento / San Francisco area.
I know 7 is an odd number, but this appears to be a group that is used to each other.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hello MattZ....welcome to the Forum.
You can click on these links and check out these websites and price compare they both sell the same cage model and will price match.
My Bird Cage--(Used To Be Called HQ Cages)
Quality Discount Cages
I have the single HQ and really like it but others have the double and they love the extra room and the removable divider. Also if there are any bird shows coming up sometimes you can find these cages there for a good price.
I did find a used one on Craigslist for $50.00 but my daughter loved it so much I ended up giving it to her for her 4 budgies....so I am still looking for a second cage.
Something else to think about that I didn't when I bought mine. I got a white one so it would hide the droppings and it also "hides" my finches...they are much harder to see in a light color cage....I wish I would have bought a darker color like green or tan....oh well live and learn!

Hi, Matt, and welcome to the forum. I have both the single HQ flight and the double HQ flight. If you have the room, I would recommend the double flight. It comes with a removable divider, so when it is time to clean, you can shoo all birds down to one end, put in the divider, and then work at your leisure. Also, the double is a much better size for 7 finches. What species? I am assuming since they are rescues they are Zebras or Societies. If they are Zebras, and you have both males and females, they will mate and have babies. Since they are a rescue group, chances are they are all related, so breeding is not such a good idea. The double flight gives you the option of keeping the divider in and having two separate cages. Odd numbers are OK once they are over 6--the worst odd number is 3, since one can get picked on by the other two.
I did a thread on 'Making the HQ Flights Better', it is under Housing somewhere. Has tips on working with the single flight, but many of the things also apply to the double.

Thanks for the tips and links. If I take out anything that can be used as a nest, will they still try and breed? Yes, they are zebras. Is there anything that will discourage them? I won't play any Barry White music, and no candle light...
Also, I was thinking of ordering the cage in black, for the reasons you suggest.
Does anyone have any input on color? The green looks pretty nice as well.
Thanks!

My double flight is green, it's the only one I got new. The singles are all used, so I took whatever color they came in--I have green, light gray, and white--I think the darker colors definitely work better, if you have a choice.
With Zebras, it is almost impossible to keep them from breeding, if you have a mix of both sexes. No nests or nesting material for sure, but don't be surprised to find eggs in the oddest places. Just toss the eggs as you find them--they may give up, but not likely!

I have that exact cage! Its a dream, I love how much room it has and the doors are nice and big so I can easily access everything inside! Congrats on getting into finches, I only got my birds a month or so ago and it is truely the "finch fever"!
4 gouldians (Devin and Agnes, Jezebel and Rocky), 4 society finches, 2 Zebras, 2 Cordon Bleus
