Well he hasn't eaten any yet. Still waiting.![]()
They do know!
My guys do this too. I have one kitty jerk who literally starved himself rather than eat the good food (it was Hill's prescription diet, like $25 for a 5 lb bag!) He literally went on a hunger strike for like 3 days rather than eat it. The vet said "hold your ground. He'll get hungry enough and he'll eat it." Well, the vet was wrong! I think this cat would die of starvation first! LOL
Of course, everyone else *loved* the food.
Due to all the pickyness, we usually have to opt for the cheap crappy food that they all love and just give tons of vitamins and fresh food supplements to counteract the awful food. Same with my picky birds at the moment! Supplementing away with vitamins and hoping they're getting enough!
Though with the dogs, we just switched to Beneful prepared meals and they love it! (Except for the chihuahua who refuses to eat anything but egg, peas, carrots and corn. But he's super sick so I'll give him anything he wants, just as long as he eats it!)
The Beneful prepared meals are actual food where you can see actual ingredients rather than a pulverized mush that could be God knows what. I'd probably find them appetizing if I ate meat!

Re: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CommaHolly, I did get the lingo. My grandsons keep me pretty up to date on it. When I don't understand, I ask my daughter, their mother and she fills me in...and I turn white as a ghost, swallow hard, and then learn new terminology. Geeze we've come a long way! How did we ever live without being able to speak, and what's the sense of spelling correctly, and what are we ever going to do with the cursive we know?!!! We wasted so much precious time!
You should see what I say to them. I'm such a tease!!! My dog now is on....Fromm White Fish and Duck which is $60 for a 30lb bag. It has no grains in it. It might be cheaper if it was like a Petco but I can't get it there.
Well my parakeet finally ate a tiny bit of seed. You would have laughed if you could have seen it. Yes...I did add a little bit more of the lovely food coloring crap to appease him. He ate it like a kid being forced to eat the worst meal ever...picking at it with...I swear...a smirk on his face! But, he ate some, and for this, I am glad!

Yes, and we had fun...real fun! Oh my goodness!!! It's scary what's happening! My 13 year old nephew wrote to me on face book this is how he spelled especially...."especaly" Thirteen! He's going into high school this September and he can't spell especially! I wrote a letter to my grandson about 6 months ago. He's 18. He wrote back to me. It was printed, in pencil...HUH! I started reading it and he was apologizing...Sorry gramma, I couldn't read your letter you wrote to me because I don't understand cursive, but I had someone read it to me. Hope you don't mind. I really didn't realize! I just pasted and copied this from his facebook page. (it wasent spost to do that) He's explaining why he blew up some electrical thing working with his father on snap chat. "It wasn't supposed to do that" is what it's supposed to say. Goodness gracious!!! He's 19 and can't spell wasn't! I'm not a genius but I can see the handwriting on the wall, and it's not pretty!

I give all my birds finely chopped carrots and mix finely chopped kale in with it.....always a hit. Try getting the frozen peas and carrots, warm them to thaw (don't boil) then drain well and give them a few sort whirls in a food processor, they love that to!

cindy thank you!
@Corkysgirl I totally hear you,,,,my grandson is 13, and he's Deaf,,,deaf kids have quite a bit of trouble with reading and spelling (it's hard to read and spell what you can't hear),,,,so when he had a spelling problem, I assumed it was his deafness,,,
er,,,,,until I was told he's the best in his class and is a grade ahead of himself.
and the cursive thing just blows my mind. seriously, it kills me.

CommaHolly I understand very well about the spelling and reading issues of the deaf. I'm a sign language interpreter since 1993. I worked with deaf adults, kids, deaf/blind kids also. I loved it!!! With ASL they don't think in sentence structure so reading and remembering spelling words is so hard. You did the perfect thing for him. He will excel to the best of his ability if he's encouraged. They learn an entirely different way, though they need to live amongst the hearing so it's tough. I worked with a 13 year old girl as her one on one in Summer school two years in a row. I got the real nitty gritty of what she wasn't understanding in school. They miss a lot academically and it's not their fault. Yes...the cursive thing is a mystery and maddening!

Michael is amazing,,,,and he's doing so well,,,the only thing I really regret is that the family is losing our ASL because he reads lips so well now and he has an amazing hearing aid for his good ear (the other is in excess of 125 db loss),,,,,
he does have an interpreter his entire school day (except lunch and recess)but he's been cmpletely mainstreamed for a few years now

Re: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow -- kids these days don't know cursive?
I'm in my 30s and I learned cursive, but I think I was the last generation. I had some actual pen pals as a kid too!
The internet was just forming as I was a kid. My dad is a tech engineer, so we had a computer and internet when nobody else did and there was just one online community at the time, called Firefly. (Designed by my dad's friends at MIT)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_(website)
Today's teens and kids type in shorthand online and that accounts for a huge portion of their writing, so I think they forget or never learn proper grammar and spelling or just save the proper grammar/spelling for school papers.
I'm a freelance writer -- I spend 12+ hours a day writing -- so I can't bring myself to type in shorthand; it just feels wrong! (That also explains my wordiness!)
Back to the thread topic.....
I brushed apples and strawberries in a light coat of honey and stuck on some millet seeds and little miss picky pants (Sylvia) actually ate some! She nibbled at the honey too.
Success! (Small, but a success nevertheless!)

Re: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha...you know what else we have in common. My first grandson's name is...Michael! That's very good though that he can lip read well. I know deaf people that virtually only lip read. They're very intelligent. One works for Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Library...because she's deaf, she can work in the Top Secret area because of the benefits of not hearing and it's a great job. I used to interpret her College classes. Another is a 70 year old man whose mother was a 1st grade teacher. Just two of the examples. It's important to have that skill, though I understand about losing ASL. I'm forgetting much of it now, not using it in a while since I moved to this state. I swear it became my first language because I used it so much I forgot English. Sounds crazy but I had Hungarians living with me (foreign students)and they forgot their language when they were speaking English for so long. It happens. It's good he's mainstreamed too...and has an interpreter. I love the deaf, was steeped in the deaf culture, but along with it comes a real isolation. It's really better if he doesn't get steeped in it. Better to be in both worlds. It's hard to explain. The deaf...would disagree with me because they think it's a gift to be deaf, thus isolate themselves from the hearing...and it causes a lot of problems. Some of them will even reject their hearing child. I've seen it all! Him being able to lip read will make him understand English sentence structure and there will be more hope of him doing better in school as apposed to ASL learning only. It's so much harder. You know how the English language has so much contradictions in it. With ASL alone it's so hard to learn because of it. http://www.englishforums.com/English/Wh ... c/post.htm Wow... are we related?

Re: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CommaHolly Yes, they can have honey. I saw you posted that after I already wrote my post. In fact Laraine...@ladygouldianfinch wanted me to add it to my old lady bird's meds because she is on a prophylactic antibiotics. It's in her water and she won't drink the water without the honey. I only use Really Raw Honey though because it's really good! Some honey's are cooked losing a lot of nutritional value. Some honey's aren't even just honey but corn syrup and honey.
That's great they're eating the vegetables. Mine LOVE broccoli! I never tried mango. Not sure I could find one in the boondocks here. I hope they enjoy it.

Re: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing with honey is that it can carry botulism spores.
So I always treat my honey before I serve it.
I'll boil it so you need a glass jar for this -- use the same method as you'd use for canning by floating the honey jar in a pot of water on the stove. It has to be over 250 degrees for 10 minutes, plus 1 minute for every 1,000 feet of elevation over sea level. (No idea why elevation makes a difference; It's just what my grandmother told me to do so I do it! LOL)
Then, I let it cool and freeze for 48 hours.
Then, let it thaw and it's ready to serve.
Some only do the freezing and some only do the boiling. But I do both as I give it to animals who are sick/unwell and they're the most prone to any problems from bacteria.
