Re: Wanting to rescue in Pennsylvania
Jo Jo was scared to death of us when he first came here. It took about 7 months for him to get used to my hand being in his cage and now he will come out on it but he won't stay on it long. He only stays on it long enough to fly to the computer to watch Disco. I'm still working slowly on getting him up to my shoulder. Last time I had him...with my hand near my shoulder as he sat on my hand. They'll come around. Just take it real slow.

Well thats why i like Finch. You dont have to put extra time. Into them. But i couldnt pass these up haha. I let then out their cage for free time. And they go back in on their own when the sun goes down. They are lil cuties

They'll probably get used to you faster if you're letting them out a lot. I don't let Jo Jo out too much because of the dog. Just once per day for a short time to watch Disco. I have to lock the dog up in another room so he doesn't chomp him. He really wants to snack on a bird...any bird will do!

Re: Wanting to rescue in Pennsylvania
I wish! My husband had a German Shepherd that would let the parakeet land on his head and then it would walk down between it's eyes and on it's nose. The dog would just lay there.
Tonight, for the first time, Jo Jo copied something I said. He keeps saying "What'r you doing Disco?" I kept saying to my husband that the Disco videos are all declarative statements and not questions. I then realized he is taking how I always say..."What'r you doing Jo Jo and adding his favorite word...next to of course "cheeseburger" ...... "Disco" and saying...."What'r you doing Disco?" He says it dozens of times every day. I'm happy because it means I can teach him words now.

Yeah...I sound like one of those obnoxious mothers that can't stop talking about her kid! Wait until yours start doing things...and have babies. You'll be the same way.

I thought from the picture it looked dark. I don't know if that means she ready next year...or done all together. The article I found that in didn't specify. I thought it was interesting. They're young so I assume it means done for now. You can pump them up with good foods and vitamins before they mate and be sure to have healthy chicks.

Re: Wanting to rescue in Pennsylvania
Oh, I heard about them when I lived in Maryland. I hope you get them too. I really want a canary. I don't know much about them at all. I answered an ad on craigslist for a beautiful male canary but he was already gone. The woman said she has some eggs ready to hatch on the 13th and if all goes well... I wrote back and said I was interested. It's iffy though because from the map, I'm not sure how far she really is...and if the eggs don't hatch or something happens.... We will see. I hope you get your call and your finches.
