My juveniles learned to bathe...not from their parents!!!

Post by Corkysgirl » Tue Jun 24, 2014 5:36 pm

My CFW female and her mate never bathed. These are the first zebras I had that didn't. I wasn't happy about it because when they had a recent clutch I knew this meant they wouldn't teach their offspring to bathe. I had to remove him because he was plucking the hen...and then later the chicks. Then later I had to remove her because she did the same. It seemed they wanted to be back together to mate again. So...the juveniles are in a large flight cage alone in a large room with many finches but they are 7 inches lower than all the cages in the center of the room. Today I went in and they are all wet and shaking off. My 10 year old male zebra is also doing the same. His cage is the closest to them...because I am also hoping the male will learn his song. Apparently, they copied him and all learned to bathe. I'm so happy about this! Had I left the parents in there, I don't think this would have happened.

I didn't even think of the dander delray. After I clean their cages....I itch like crazy (with them taking baths). My dog is also allergic and can't go anywhere near the bird room when I stir things up or her ears itch like mad!

yeah so the dander level deffinetely goes down when they take baths regularly. Maybe your dog wont be as itchy, though it already seems like all your other feathered friends bath!!!! :)  :D

I wish! She is SO allergic to everything. I can't imagine non-bathers because as you say, that would add to the dander. I really try to keep her out of the room, door shut. Sometimes my husband forgets and she gets in there, eats the bird seed off the floor (bad dog!) and it's a nightmare...itching for days. She has to eat very expensive food without grains in it. I want to catch them bathing. It will be so cute to see. I'm just happy they learned.
