A big, big, big, thank you
A big, big, big, thank you
Hi
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have helped with my questions about setting up my aviary and which birds to get.
I knew to start with I wanted two canaries, before I venture into finch keeping. Knowing that the canaires could live with the finches long term.
Today I came back from visiting a local breeder with these two new friends. The green, and very pretty, hen is called BB (short for Bouncy Bouncy - she never sits still). The yellow one is quieter and not showing his character yet so no name so far.

Congratulations! They're such beautiful birds!!! BB...that's such a cute name and I love how you picked it! I'm sure you'll come up with the perfect name for your other little one. I really want canaries. Very rare to find here where I am. One day!

Are you NorthEast UK?
I see adverts for Bird Couriers. Not sure how much they charge. They are experienced bird keepers who tranport birds around the UK. Just incase you didn't know

No, I'm in Maine. I did travel about 100 miles to an Avian Vet yesterday and even looked thereabouts as there are no pet stores at all in my area. There were none at all to be found! At one store they said they had one canary but just shipped him out to another pet store because he didn't sell for 6 months. I guess they are popular in some places and not in others.

Huge congrats!! Love the green canary, beautiful colouring
Are you planning on having live plants in your aviary? If you are, just a word of warning re the canaries. They will eat and quite possibly kill all plants in the aviary. I learnt the hard way with mine... Your best bet would be to keep your plants in pots and have a big enough selection going that you can rotate your pots in the aviary. It gives the plants a chance to grow back.
All the best with your new aviary!

Funny isn't it. We have lots of canaries here they are popular.I guess they are popular in some places and not in others.
Re: A big, big, big, thank you
I was going to. Then I read up a lot about it and people were saying exactly what you sayAre you planning on having live plants in your aviary?

I have some plastic plants and a wall mural of plants, then I may put some plants in in rotation, like you say.
I called the little one Cutie Cutie. No reason really other than when I came in to see them in the morning it just popped out of my mouth

Re: A big, big, big, thank you
My favorite bird died tonight and I'm absolutely devastated! She was my fawn zebra. She was 10 years 4 months old...so I really really want a canary now. I will never be able to replace her but I need something bright and cheery to forget a little. I've been online a lot and found a place...in South China. It's South China, Maine. It's still very far and I have to call them because a lot of these places are advertised but are really closed down.
Cutie Cutie...is a cute name! It's funny my bird who died was named Little Fawn. She was so sweet! I was always just call her "littleee girrrrlll" in a long drawn out sing song...when I would go into the bird room. We're a funny "lot" aren't we....the way we love our birds! You can call her CC for short. BB and CC. They're really nice. I really want a yellow one...my favorite color, but your green one is also beautiful. I definitely want a male. That's for sure!

Sorry to hear about Little Fawn
I hope you find a yellow canary soon, to add some sunshine to your life
CC and BB. I love it

So sweet!
I just love the round plump look of canaries. The yellow one has that. So darn cute! He looks very serious and introspective in his photo!
And the female is just so pretty! Look at her face! Such a sweet photo, like she's posing.
Love the names too! I had a CC once; he was a black and white cat. Cow Cat = CC.
They're just such jolly little creatures. LOVE them! Congrats!

Thank you. I think one is older too. The breeder only lives over the road, so I may pop in and ask him some time.
All very exciting.
