Seed Hopper !!

Hello Everyone.

Iv attched Pics of this seed hopper i am after.

I see them on alot on websites, mainly american websites. and breeders use these seed hoppers on the fronts of there bird cages.

I am Yet to see any in Australia, so my guess is they don't sell them here.

Has anybody seen these in Australia?? Where to buy them???

If not does anybody know what websites have them and may ship to Australia.

Finally if you have these Seed Hoppers how do you rate them?? Pro's and Con's ??????

I would like to get some too, but have not found them. Who carries them?the pet shops around here don't have them.

I used to make my own, much larger though. the ones in use all the time held a kilogram of seed. the others help 5 kilograms and were used if I was going to be away for a few days. not hard to make just a bit of timber and some clear perspex/plastic for the hopper front.
never seen them that small before though, would be very convenient

If Tammy (Just Bird Stuff) doesn't have them, you can get them from www.redbirdproducts.com/ and I think also at www.fairestfinches.com/. Sorry, aussies, these are all US companies, but maybe one of them would be able to ship to Australia.

I love these seed hoppers, I have one on each cage. They cut down on the hull mess, and they really help with the species (like CBs) that like to throw their food around. Depending on how many birds in a cage, I only have to refill every 5-7 days, but you do have to empty the hull drawer more often (but still not more often than 3-4 days).

Just want to chime in here and say I have these hoppers too and really love them! Just like Sally said....they really cut down on the mess.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this particular hopper would be useful for parakeets as well? I could see them doing just fine with one, but has anyone tried it?

emessis.....I gave one of my seed hoppers to my daughter to try....as she has 4 budgies.

She said it didn't work very well because the seeds would sometimes get stuck and also the budgies had a hard time getting them out because their beaks are a little bigger and didn't fit into the area where the seeds came down.

The space was too small....there was some discussion about the possibility of grinding away some of the plastic to open up the seed bed more..but I didn't want my hopper modified.

I posted the pictures on a UK forum...it seems they are available here.Of those replying it was about 50/50 Some loved 'em others didn't like them.
I don't think they are suitable for hookbills ...the access to the seed is not suited to their bill shape.

We did carry them for while, but we stopped because of quality control issues.

The first few years we had and sold them they worked very well if the cage you use will work with them. In the last year the manufacturing got really sloppy and seed spilled out of them for us and several customers. After exchanging over a dozen defective units we decided to no longer carry them. Most of them are made from hard plastic that chip or get brittle over time. As they wore out we replaced them with soda bottle feeders. Now that we use soda bottle feeders I don't think I could go back to the seed hopper. One big advantage is that you can use any size soda bottle.

One guy in the UK complained that they got brittle after a while...
What do you mean by soda bottle feeder?....any chance of a pic.?
