Summer cleaning

I've just finished cleaning my 20 birds. It takes me an hour, 3 times a week. The days in between is just general seed and water changes. I prefer the summer because it means I can clean them of an evening with longer day light. In the winter I have to get up at 7am sometimes to clean them before work. This got me thinking as to how long other keepers spend on cleaning their birds and how often?

That depends on what you consider cleaning. Daily, I chance water twice and give food twice. Weekly, I change the paper towels on the bottom grate, unless they get really dirty before the end of the week. Then, after breeding season, I take all birds out of the flights, take the flights outside and hose them down, disinfect and rearrange new greenery, perches, nests etc. I put the birds in temporary cages while their own is being cleaned. This process takes me 3 days or three separate 1-2 hour sessions of cleaning. Most of the time is taken to catch finches, put them in a temp cage, and the catch them after cleaning to return them to their flight. LOL. So many people ask me why I spend so much time on the finches, but I enjoy them.

My flights are indoors, so easier to deal with. I have two large flights and one smaller one. It takes
me between an hour to an hour and a half daily. That includes, removing feeders and assorted dishes and soaking in hot soap water. Quick wipe of perches and change of papers. Wash dishes and refill and place in cage. Fresh seed, water and veg/fruit/eggs etc. Once a week, I wipe down the sides, bars and so on. Plants are taken out and washes as needed. Trays are vacumed and washed as needed, no big deal, seeing as my grates/trays are paper covered.
