I posted this in a thread under "introductions" but so far no one has bitten.

Can anyone help me identify my Societies' color?

"Chocolate Self" was my first guess too.

The man who sold me them claimed they were "Euros" but I am not noticing enough scaling on the bellies. Then I learned of "Grade B Euros" which have poorer scaling than "Grade A Euros" so now I'm wondering if they aren't "Grade B" or possibly even "Euro x Chocolate Self" cross.

I would simply ask the man about this but he really didn't seem to know any more than I did when we met.

Thoughts?

Ginene, I was told they are a pair. So far I have only seen one sing and do the "puffy dance" so I am crossing my fingers that the other will indeed be a female. Would love to see then have babies at least once.

After reading that page you shared I suppose I am better off with standard American Chocolate Selfs since I want to breed them but don't want to complicate things for myself, being a novice with finches as it already is.

They sort of look like my chestnut! My phineas is a chestnut. i also have an ultra dilute fawn! Societies are awesome finches. But i agree with all the others. Chocolate selfs they are! I think i welcomed you already on your introductory post. You will really like this forum and your socs!

Brian, I especially like your Societies. I had hoped to get a ginger one but settled for what I could get.

On a side note, I am now 95% sure I've got a pair of males. When I play Society clips for them they both "CHEE" back instead of either one doing a "KREE" sound like a cricket. They are especially vocal with their "CHEE" sounds when I play a clip of a female Society calling out to a male.
