He was doing so good the last couple days eating and moving around but he really went downhill fast! I held him during his last moments.
The female has been calling for him the last couple days wondering where he was. After Jazz died...I took him over to the cage to show Jewel. She came near and looked at him twisting and turning her head.
Hubby will bury him in the garden for me.

Aww Deborah - I'm so sorry to hear about Jazz dieing!!

What happened to him? He was so pretty in the center of your signature photo line!! So hard to watch them go and feel so helpless. I'm sure he appreciated you're being there with him and holding him.

Gosh Debra I am very sorry. I didn't even know he was sick.
A bird dying is always very difficult and especially if it is one of your favorites. I am so sorry. Wish we lived closer and I would give Jewel a friend.....

Deborah, so sorry to hear the sad news about Jazz. It is always hard to lose one of our little finches, but especially so when they are one of our 'pets'.

Thanks for the kind replies everybody. Yes...my finches were true pets being I only had the 4. Jazz was special to me....I would talk to him a lot and he always let me know when I would forget to turn off the overhead light after covering the cage front for the night. He would keep whistling loudly until I came and turned out the light then he would sing his song and quiet down for the night.
It would have not been so hard had I found him already passed away in the morning but to watch him slowly fade away suffering was hard to watch.
One last photo of Jazz to share:

Yes a very handsome fella.I don't want to add more stress to you in this sad time. But do you know why he passed? As maybe what ever made him pass could effect the others.

So sorry to hear about your loss, Losing a pet especially one as special as Jazz is never easy. Do you plan on getting Jewel a new friend?
I don't have any finches right now but I used to, I'll try to provide my knowledge around the forum

FinchezRule....I don't think I will be getting Jewel a mate...I plan to rehome her. Being I only have the one flight cage and would like to breed my Owls I decided this would be the best option as I know Owls need complete privacy when nesting and with limited room even one Gouldian would cause problems and I don't want Jewel to be all alone either.
Someday I will get another flight cage (hopefully a double!) and then get more finches.

oh jeez featherhard--i'm so sorry for your loss. at least you got to hold him in his final moments and he didn't have to die alone.
i have a friend whose father would bury her pets next to a rose bush. when the roses bloomed in spring time, he would say, "look, there is so-and-so telling you that they are okay."
hang in there.
