Wow! Your male has incredible coloring!
That's a super vibrant purple. At first, I thought the photo was dark/over-saturated, but then noticed the hen for perspective. How lovely!

He's got a great turquoise band too.

Wow...I have a long way to go on this genetic thing! I have a male that looks just like Deborah's female with the tip of his beak yellow.
I think these birds are so interesting....and totally beautiful!

Because of the yellow tip on the beak. I thought that meant they're really a yellow head

finchmix22 here is a good page to read. It specifically talks about black head YTB in the third paragraph. She's lacking the redhead gene which is why the yellow has can't be expressed visually

All this genetics stuff confuses me and makes my head spin. Even the sex stumps me a lot of the time. Sometimes I think I see a male, turns out it's a female and vice versa.

I totally understand. I was looking at my new gouldians and was not sure how someone would sex them. they both have bright colors. If the male was not singing and trying to court the hen, I'd think they were both males.
