Thunder buddies.

Post by delray » Sat Sep 06, 2014 3:30 pm

It's pouring here in New York. they are a bit nervous. Still chirping though. I shut the window because of the lightning. Haven't seen it rain this much in a long time!! Looks like I'm stuck in my pjs!! Lol. ;) tried to capture the effect by showing you the soaked window lol.

It's funny, we get thunderstorms daily here in Florida and it's so strange that the birds don't get freaked at all!
My dogs and cats all hide and their behavior changes noticeably. But the birds are totally unfazed!

It was funny as yesterday, we had a close lightning strike that knocked out the power. So their room was totally dark. The second the lights turned back on, they all started chirping at once! It was quite cute.

Gráinne Barrett 8) . MiaCarter , i dont have dogs and cats, but i do know that they do get crazy during storms, but not birds!! They got a little nervous, but not that much! We were probably more scared than them. lol

We were supposed to have thunderstorms tonight, but all that happened is a few sounds of distant thunder and no rain. Darn, cuz we need some rain! It's been in the high 90's like 98 degrees and the humidity if over 50%! So, it's that sticky, humid, muggy heat like a sauna. UGH,... However, my finches are quite happy with this temperature and humidity, so I shouldn't complain...

My birds are entirely oblivious to thunderclaps loud enough to scare ME. XD

They love to sit in the windowsills during showers and spread their wings so the mists coming in get them. But no fear at all!

My guys couldn't care less about thunder showers. They just go on with bird life.
One of my cats however, lifts his head if there is thunder , gets up and does his fast walk to the basement, where he proceeds to sit under the stairway until the storm is over. It's like he was trained for tornado safety.

finchmix22 that's very hot!! We barely get that kind of that heat in the summer. I'm sure everyone needs rain there. Lol

@Sheather wow, during the thunderstorms they sit there?! Too funny. I guess finches are not scared of flashing lights and loud thundering noises!!

@lovezebs that's funny and cute how he always goes down there, in a fast pace. It does sound like he is trained!! Lol

Yep, Texas is a very hot state! However, this summer is mild compared to the last 3-4 years, when we had over a month of temps over 100! Many days, the temps were 108-110! It happens every so often in our history. I just wish we had the opposite trend of very mild summers more often. We actually had rain in July, which is usually unheard of here. So, I guess I shouldn't complain.

My finches don't seem scared of the thunder and lightening, but they are inside and maybe they are used to the sounds, IDK. There is one big window in the finch room, so they get the effect of rain and lightening too. Thank God, no frights with weather so far. [-o<

I don't blame your poor doggie. Does he have a dog house or shelter? I'd let him in because I'd feel guilty if I'm inside and he was outside in a thunderstorms.
