hi gomer i have tried tin around the bottom but has helped much so its not relly worth it. got a few mice but bloody cats are more of the problem so i think i need an electric fence around me avaries
i do have more avaries aswell but there at me dads place bout 15 mins from were i live and there are another 4 avaries one is 6mtrs X 5mtrs 2.4 high and 2 at 2.8mtrs X1.5 mtrs 1.8 high for finches then ive got a pair of sulpher crested cocky and that is 6.5mtrs by 2mtrs by 2.1 high and that has got the tin arounnd the bootom helps a bit but they still dig under the footing no matter wat the depths are and on that its 400mm deep and still get in and on the real big avary the footings are bout a 1meter deep because it was me old sand pit when i was younger and its still gets mice in it
thanks chris

Be care about that on here......we already had several heated discussions on things like that......

I've got an agreement with the other halfs cat. if it stays away from the birds I wont turn the garden hose on it or use the kids water pistols.
if you have a weak stomach dont read any further...........
A parrot breeder I knew years ago had a novel way of detering cats, admittedly it was very permanent. every few days he use to set out a metal tray with a bowl of milk in the centre of it. he would then attach anpower lead to it. positive lead clipped to the tray and negative into the milk, poor cats completed the electrical circuit. he didnt care if the cats he got were someone's pet or feral, so long as his birds were left in peace.
he very quickly stopped doing this though as he forgot to turn the power off one day and zapped himself. he went and bought a dog as the nest line of defense. when he told me about it I couldnt believe how cruel he had been but when he said about being zapped I was crying with laughter, served him right.

well hen you have birds that are over the $500 each mark you would do anything to stop the finches from getting night fright just last week i had a ffinch die from as nothing else was wrong so it hink the electric fence will be going up soon or get the cat trap a take it to the local pound as i think its the people behind us and they have moved and left it.

electrocuting a cat is a little much to me. I stick to the water spray bottle for mine, she seems to get the hint after a couple sprays (I guess she isnt that smart because she doesnt learn the first time). My birds are all inside so I dont have to worry about stray cats, thank goodness, there are a ton of them in my neighborhood. (sorry about my spelling...)
4 gouldians (Devin and Agnes, Jezebel and Rocky), 4 society finches, 2 Zebras, 2 Cordon Bleus
