I teach preschool and I just couldn't decide on names for my newly acquired European Goldfinches. I showed my preschoolers photos of them and asked then what they would name them and this is what two of the girls said..... Mr. Hoodie and Jinga. And I like it, so it's official!

I love the looks of the European Gold Finch. What size are they? Like a canary? A Gouldian, or bigger?

Thank you! They are about the size of a Gouldin maybe a smudge bigger but a tad smaller than a canary. Nice size. They are a bit skittish. I am hoping the settle down a bit, and don't startle so easily, but have heard it may be in their nature to just be a little skittish. They are so different looking, that's why I had such a difficult time naming. No name jumped out at me with these guys.

Lovely birds. Their beaks are very long. Do you have cuttlefish or equivalent to help wear them down?

Yes, their beak are on the longer side. They are supposed to be I have read, they are thistle eaters, and the long beaks help them to get down into the cones to get thistle seed in the wild. I know they look a little in the dangerous side. Lol! But yes, I do have a cuttlefish and natural branches to help them.m
