KarenB --- Oh what a precious moment! Love it!
I love how the babies always snuggle. Have your guys shown preferences yet in terms of clutch-mates?
My pair Pippin and Piper would need to be separated with a pry bar! LOL

Re: Round 2, Ding Ding Ding
lovezebs, The poop perimeter is my term for the poop around the perimeter of the nest, and it is surrounding the babies. I'm concerned that they are going to get into it. Yuck.

They are so adorable, it makes me think about letting my Society's breed again...Or not...Hmmm.

I am thinking his and hers cages so I can keep them all. Problem is where I'd put said cages. I don't have room for a double flight. Then again, who needs a dining table? Hmmm

Re: Round 2, Ding Ding Ding
lovezebs, See the bottom of page 3 of this thread for the latest pics.
All are doing very well. I reinforced the opening of the nest so that no one will fall out. With such a large clutch, I was worried one of them would fall and then get too cold. I put more plastic plants in front and wedged them in and wove them around. Although the babies are about to the point where they can be left alone for a while in the nest, being on the floor of the flight is a bit different.
These are definitely some chocolate pie. I can't wait to see how they look all feathered out!!

Definitely chocolate pie this time?
Little Beans was pretty tricky with that! He gave us chocolate lovers a tease! LOL
Sounds like you need a baby catcher!
If you're nervous about someone potentially falling, I'd put some paper towels over the grate (prevents the tiny ones from falling through and prevents air flow on the underside of the body for larger ones, so they stay warmer.)
And then, put up a heat lamp focused on the landing zone.
That's what I do. (Except I put the heat lamp on my baby catcher. And it worked pretty good when one of my guys fell out. He wasn't optimally warm, but definitely not cold like poor little baby Squeepers was!)

I'm not worried about them falling out any longer. It's like Fort Knox now.

How is your clutch(es) doing Sheather?Sheather wrote: KarenB
We seem to be having almost coinciding clutches! My seven societies just raised six chicks to weaning a few weeks back and now have between them 10 new eggs about a few days from hatching.
Funny your birds don't all incubate together anymore! My birds have split off into two breeding groups who each have gone and nested in two different cages. One consists of a male and 2 hens, and then one of the grown young from last time, and then the other consists of one male, one female, their two grown offspring born in January, and the other 8 week old baby whom I kept from last time. But in each nest, all of the birds sit in the nests/sleep in them at once! The eggs aren't getting broken, so they must just be careful. It's so cute when the little 8 week olds take turns sitting on the eggs to give their parents and older siblings a break!'
I also have a society named Apollo by the way! He was part of my first ever clutch last winter and is 8 months old now.

Re: Round 2, Ding Ding Ding
Oh. My. Goodness.
Look at all of those little faces! Too cute!
And definitely chocolate pie in there!
They are adorable beyond description!
I found the most curious thing in my family's cage this morning.
Somehow, they booted both infertile eggs from the nest. They got them beyond the baby catcher, onto the floor and on the opposite end of the cage!
The eggs were curiously unbroken. (And I was able to confirm that they were infertile. Not DIS.
Not even cracked!!
Did these birds seriously use their beak to roll these eggs to the furthest point from the nest? Seems unlikely but I can't seem to think of another explanation! Getting them up and over the lip of the baby catcher would have been a challenge.
Did your guys mess with the unhatched eggs from Beans' clutch?
