Finch Journal #3 The 3rd Attempt
Well, today I changed the aviary, they are in the NEW mansion, a seriously awesome home, they have a LONG LONG flight path and a wide one also, the change in cages has also shown a change in the Zebzzzzz body language and manner, they appear a lot more chirpy and active, not that the previously one was at all small!!!!!
Took a while to get used to the new floor with a sheet over the carpet section, so I put a small piece of the old floor bottom from the other cage in and they went onto the floor quickly.
I notice that they like a snack here and all over so, I put a few seeds in each corner and on the platforms in higher corners, also works well.
So, all is good, now to see, MAYBE this time in the new aviary we get chicks........
I also put another wicker basket in and that is an instant hit, now to see what place they will sleep tonight, I keep them inside at night.
Pics from today.

Re: Finch Journal #3 The 3rd Attempt
Yesterday evening they slept on a perch, obviously not used to the new home, today he doing building work again, and he is a real crazy builder, I think he would use anything he can find to build, he carry s all those round soft cotton pads up also
In front of the roof inside is a double breeding box and in front a wicker basket.............. the wicker basket is the choice, as always......
Another thing that works VERY WELL is when you put a perch above the wicker basket on each side, so one bird can look down into the nest from above, they seem to like this very much. Excuse bad photos but here it shows the idea.

Those small cotton-wool round pads that ladies use for make up, well Mr Mechanical likes to use them as building material seems like a real hit!

CHIRP
Cute pictures. You mentioned that they go indoors at night? How do you get then inside? Do you catch them every day?

The aviary is on castors, just wheel it in. Takes 10 seconds.

Re: Finch Journal #3 The 3rd Attempt
Hi David, I only have my two in it, I want to give them as nice a life as I can, I have already in 4 months saved both of their lives, I CAN put another pair in but don't want issues, so they have a special piece of safety in the mansion. Again thanks to all here who assisted in giving valuable info in helping me to save the two.

Re: Finch Journal #3 The 3rd Attempt
Well today I found the first egg in the new aviary, so now for another 6 as my family has 7 every time, one thing that puzzles me, is that the pair now sit on a perch in the aviary at night and not in a box or basket like before -- in the day they go in, but at night sit all night on a perch?........... any ideas?
