In my backyard I have often seen wild birds take a dust bath where there are dry fine, loose sand available. I wonder if I should put a container with fine dry sand in the aviary. If it is good for them, why not? There are quite a lot on the internet of birds taking dust baths.

Re: Dust bath anyone?
i know most true sparrows, some weavers and buntings do relish in a dust bath but I've never known any of the mannikin/munia or australian finch species that I've had to seem at all interested in dust bathing.
i provide my californian quail and chickens with a mix of grit, sand, sawdust and diatomaceous earth for dusting in but none of the other birds that were housed with them showed interest.

Re: Dust bath anyone?
The only birds I have ever seen take dust baths in my aviary are the quail. Finches seem to prefer the water.
SOme of those pictures though are classic! Nothing like a snozz full of sand to make your day

Agree with the above posts.
For the finches not worth it.
For button quail - they do enjoy it.
