Re: They have arrived!
Sorry they are very flighty at this time (wild caught, fresh imports) a little hard to photograph!

Re: They have arrived!
Every single bird, all 26 of them escaped my hands at least once. The bronze wings are the fastest birds I've dealt with. It took me a good hour to catch and get everybody in the right cages and the room is only 10x10. All 20 bronzewings are huddled on top of each other like societies on one perch, it's so cute.

How exciting!
Though wild caughts make me sad.
But they're lovely! Especially loving the orange weaver. They can be a bit aggressive, but that fabulous looks-like-an-orange-chenille-scarf plumage makes up for it!

Re: They have arrived!

Congratulations & they look gorgeous!! Esp the weaver!! Very exciting. I will be expecting mine soon thank you very much! Kidding but really.. gimme. LOL
I knew what they were!!

When it's done the wrong way, i.e. hiding humming birds in your pants (that really happened), I would disagree with the method of importation. But without imports and wild caught birds - we would have no finches in the USA. No parrots either. No Strawberries. All species kept in aviculture came from somewhere: the wild. If they banned all exotic species tomorrow as some groups would love to see, you better believe everyone on this forum would be raising wild caught starlings, pekin robins and the like caught from our back yards!! We have juncos & hummingbirds here and I think about trapping them every day!
Eventually I hope they open up imports into this country regarding wild caught birds and all other species. So we can import more wild caught birds. The quality of our offspring would soar exponentially.

Lol Chelsea you don't count i told you ahead of time!
I definitely need to get them figured out to get your some! And i agree 100%. My only fear is that we'll have an abundance and the fun factor of breeding will be removed

AW MAN!!
No rush really, I have to construct a munia mini-aviary for the mini meanies. But I'm super excited!! My lone BWM is going to poop himself. I think all he's ever seen before are Spices & Chocolate Societies. He thinks they are his people. LOL
An abundance of BWMs sounds like a very awesome thing to me. To give you an idea of how ridiculously uncommon they are.. I had never seen one before in my life, and thought my little man was some sort of awkward hybrid until Google images suggested BWMs to me proving me wrong! B&WMs & CBMs I can spot all day.. BWMs I couldn't tell my you know what from my elbow. Now it seems so obvious!
We need more breeders of all mannikins imho!! We will never have too many hobbyists, you will never hear those words from me!

Looks like you have a couple of black and whites in there, or am I not seeing right? The ones on top righ hand side of cage in picture.
Congratulations my boy, and I thought that I get a lot of birds all at once. LOL.
Once everybody is settled down, I'd love to see more pictures of new babies.

Congratulations! I don't like the idea of people trapping wild animals or birds; however, I understand that we wouldn't have any in the US finch hobby if not for wild caught imports. It's just sad to hear the stories about how so many die in the process of trapping and quarantine etc.
Any way, Dante, I had BWM's before and they are quite aggressive! They bullied even the biggest finches in my flights. I had to move them to their own breeding cage, which they promptly started to lay eggs etc. They are beautiful. The juvies are BWMs too? I can't see the pic very well.

Re: They have arrived!
Sorry i must get better pictures. Yes they are all BWM. I have about 8 adults and 12 in juvenile color. All made it healthy.
Elana, no the are no B&W butv they are a very similar species and look a lot alike.
