Cage rusting?

Post by jebediah » Mon Oct 20, 2014 4:32 pm

I have my 2 zebra males in the Prevue Economy Flight Cage. I bought it because it was the largest cage I could find (at the time) with 1/2in wire spacing. But I've noticed it's starting to rust where all the wires are sautered together. It's more so on the outside of the cage and just little bits here and there, but I'm still worried about my birds. Is there something I could do to prevent the rusting from furthering?

I've only had the cage for about 4 months or so and haven't left it in water or anything that would cause it to rust. I spot clean bird poop off the wires but make sure it dry it off.

Anyone have ideas? I can post pictures if needed.

On my white cages that have started rusting, I have touched up with a water-based paint, I think called Krylon. Sometimes, these cages will start rusting just from the water splashed up from baths.

Personally, I would find the receipt and contact the seller about returning and/or replacing this cage. Four months is nothing! Any cage should last several years. Once you touch up with white paint or do anything else to it, they probably wouldn't take it back. Also, you only have two (!) birds in it.
