UPDATE......
My Fire Finch pair have built a beautiful nest and are taking turns
sitting. Keeping my fingers crossed I don't dare peek

To answer the question about singing, the fires do very little in the way of singing. They have a very soft chirp, but that's about all you'll get unless it is a warning chatter. Good luck on the nesting.
