FINCH Family 4th ATTEMPT - SUCCESS - HOPE!

Post by CHIRP » Tue Oct 28, 2014 5:45 am

Well, I noticed a change in behaviour, they both in and out a lot of nest all of a sudden, HE has a very wet beak area around his throat area, maybe feeding? and they in and out and eat eat..... when she goes in and I listen i hear a lot of chirping from inside all low sounds, I listen with ear to the side as I made holes at the back before, and can hear chirping, I dont want to open the box.............

So, I think I have success at least, the 4th attempt, I want more confirmation though...... =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Lots of noise all of a sudden from in box, he is also soaking wet around his throat under the beak and VERY NOISY beeping.....

So, this is an all new for me, my family's 4th attempt, I am proud now :)

Shows you the factors are dead on.

All the attempts have been the same. lay 7 eggs, 1st on the 5th October;
The 10th Oct the last was laid.
They sat till the 21st and the 1st egg should gave hatched.21st
I had it written in my diary that the 28th the 7th should be hatched (today)
Today a lot of noise, so I don't know how many are hatched, sounds like about 4 chicks.

So, the stats of this 4th attempt and the previous attempts all are the same.

So, now I know exactly how many days etc you wait.

Also, the new OVAL OFFICE may have helped as the nest box is VERY VERY HIGH and BIG inside.

So, I am a proud daddy today :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: , I wonder how many I have and if all will survive........

:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

I see he managed to hit the bullseye. Congrats. You keep your finches inside, so chicks should be fine as it is quite warm at night.

Any idea how old they are?

I'm guessing at least 5+ days if they're easily audible. Most zebras start vocalizing on day 3, but they're not really easily audible for a couple more days. (I guess it depends on how good your ears are too! LOL)

Zebras do tend to start spending more time out of the nest as time passes. I noticed it around day 7-8.
As soon as those feathers start to sprout, the parents start spending more time outside the nest. Soon, they'll spend a fair part of the day outside!

Thanks all, I am to scared to open the box, will wait to see how many we have.......wait ..wait...... wait.... :shock:

I originally made about 15 holes at the back of the box to look in to inspect but Mr Mechanical is a serious builder so I can see squat [-X [-X [-X [-X through the holes :lol:

This is my families first time at young, and I am very stressed now as it is my first attempt and experience, so I will just keep on with soft food and carry on as before, and hope they are all able to grow and make the challenge.

I am a proud daddy now, my family after the 4th attempt got it right! I wish I knew how many I have..... :oops:

QUESTION; Do you think I should scrape some cuttle fish and use the powder to mix with the soft egg food?

Thanks.

Well, thanks yes! :D today I was ready, the moment he arrives in the nest and mommy is with the little ones they go bananas, make a lot of noise, I let my camera roll at the back of the cage to record the sounds, it sounds like about 4-5 chicks.

Hard to tell, I am just so happy the pair will see they can have a family.

The part that is a worry is;

MY WORRY - I am scared that I wont be able to tell my two from the rest when its time to separate, or will they be a lot different in a few ways?

COMMENTS VERY WELCOME! I don't want to ring the babies, I am scared the parents will leave them and not come back!.

I put plastic split rings on all my pairs. I also ring my parrot finch youngsters to be able to know all their details like fledge date and parents, siblings etc.
