Mondo

My lemon tree is potted in a large planter and spends summers outdoors in the sun, but comes in by the sunny south-facing window for winter. I grew it from a seed about 4 years ago, and it is too young to bloom or fruit, but makes for a very pretty and fragrant 'house tree'.

The plants my birds enjoy most are the big palm trees - they tear them up, but the plants are hardy and can handle the damage, and they add great tropical flare to the space.

Well I have my outdoor aviary and my indoor cage. I haven't put plants in my treetop vision cage it has acrylic plastic vision for front and back and the sides are bars for ventilation .
My birds don't fly into it and it does get spotted when my birds play in there water bowls but I wipe off the water with a tight net microfiber cloth and I don't use windex or anything like that and the spots come right off.
OH that looks divine! the way that bouganville grow inwards to the cage and all~ are those gouldians? few can beat a combined beauty of colorful birds and flowering plants :)

Thank you, and yes I'm lady gouldian breeder . I'm fairly new to breeding scene. But I enjoy my birdies and I love roses but being in El Paso I been having issues with roses I'm still geting uses to sear of the sun here . But when I went to buy roses they didn't have the ones I wanted and I went with bougainvillea .
A excellent rose for part shade is Zéphirine.I have it in my rose garden at my grandmothers in the hill country oF Texas (San Antonio area)

Roses are kinda high maintenance, things like black spot and malnutrition can happen to the plant is not taken care of .Black spot occurs on the roses if they have standing water on the leaves a lot. Like spraying water from your water hose daily . It promotes disease with the plant , watering roses should only happen at the base of the bush .
But this particular rose grows with no thorns and can be dense and the flowers are very fragrant . Because there thornless shaping them to a landscape is very easy.
I hope I helped and gave u a options.

that's beautiful! I would want roses but like you said, they're high maintenance and doesn't grow or bloom well in my warm tropical climate (its hot here)

I'll also use
-bottle brush tree (callistemon) I heard they grow fast enough and the leaves are quite hard so birds really don't bother
-weeping willow (salix babylonica) I heard they grow fast, their foliage looks attractive too!
-passiflora, the climbing plants that grows well, I might use them to shelter the birds or conceal nesting area :)

I have written about this plant in the Topic Seedmix. I grow this plant in season in my aviaries.
It is a called a red hanging amaranthus / "love lies bleeding plant. It can grow up to 3 meters high and have zillion of seeds. You get it in different colours. My waxbills spend all their time in this plant, eating its seeds. At times I have counted as many as 9 waxbills eating at this plant. The leaves are also edible for humans and birds. Zebras are particularly fond of the leaves and devour it's leaves until only the stem is left.

Very nice lovely plant! Though I'm guessing it would have a hard time growing where I live... its really hot here

The amaranthus looks great in your aviary. I've never thought of that plant for the aviary, but now that I've seen yours thriving, I'll give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

East Java, Indonesia...
Currently its over 35C, some say it almost reaches 39C

...isn't amaranthus a type of spinach? then, to make things easier maybe I'll grow some hardy vegetables like spinach in the aviary! that way the birds get their nutritious greens :)
probably going to pot the plants so I can remove them for recovery...
