the soda bottle feeder is great. I have two liter bottle in a cage with 6 birdsjust two see how they would react. I hung it in one corner with a sheld guard on the two walls to keep seed off floor. They took two weeks to empty it. as that was the only sorce for food they did great. I have four different seed blends that I feed my birds to keep their diet varied. when I filled the bottle I layered the four blends about 1" deep. that worked great as the layers just moved down as the birds eat. In an aviery you could hang two or three with different blends for the different breeds. They can't sit in the food dish eather. Poohbear as you use your own bottles, it would not cost much to mail it from the states to you.

Thanks for the feedback, FeatherHarp and poohbear.
I had wondered if the shape might make eating difficult for a hookbill.
Those soda bottle feeders look great! Might have to give them a try if I start keeping finches anytime soon.

No, sadly.
He passed away in April, before I had even joined here. I still miss him very much, though...they are amazing little creatures, with so much more to them than anyone can know until they have really known one.

Oh yes, lots. Funny how you look back on the sometimes annoying things with great fondness. Having him claim a spot on the back of my neck, under my hair, as a nesting spot was painful and loud at best (just try dislodging a territorial house sparrow with a sharp bill and loud voice!), but I laugh when I think back on it. Memories are a great thing.

Would you be willing to share a picture or pattern of your feeder.mickp wrote:I used to make my own, much larger though. the ones in use all the time held a kilogram of seed. the others help 5 kilograms and were used if I was going to be away for a few days. not hard to make just a bit of timber and some clear perspex/plastic for the hopper front.
never seen them that small before though, would be very convenient

Re: Seed Hopper !!
I ordered and received this style of hopper while I was gone. I filled it today, but the place where the seed dispenses seems so narrow, do the birds transition well to a hopper like this after having an open dish? How do I transisition them? I have Europeans, gouldins, zebras. Will this be comparable for these species?
