Looking to get my first pair of finches and would like to know what my options are in the Montreal, Quebec area, I'm willing to drive up to 2 hours maximum.

I see some members are buying their finches online and getting them shipped. Are they any reputable websites who ship to Canada?
How does shipping birds work anyway, they dont get hurt?

I don't know if vendors in the U.S. would be able to ship birds to Canada, because of the customs regulations, but I do know of one vendor in B.C. who ships--www.ponytailjoes.com. I have purchased birds from him, and I was very satisfied with my purchase.
As far as shipping goes, I have shipped birds and had birds shipped to me. I prefer airline shipping, and I have had no injuries/deaths. There are a few things to keep in mind: don't ship in extremely hot or cold weather, don't ship during or near holidays, and try to use non-stop flights whenever possible. Containers should be crush-proof, allow for good ventilation, and have at least one perch inside. Water in a spill-resistant container and seed and/or spray millet will keep them healthy.

Sally
I called the guys in BC and they said $115 for shipping, is that a regular shipping rate within the country?
I'm still trying to find some local breeders to avoid the stress on the birds, but it's good to know I can get them shipped.

I don't know what shipping rates are in Canada. In the U.S., United's normal charge is about $95, while Delta is something like $160 I believe. There is another vendor in the more eastern part of Canada, either Toronto or Montreal, I believe. I'll try to find out some information on him.

In that case $115 sounds fair. If you know someone on the Montreal area that would be fantastic.Sally wrote: I don't know what shipping rates are in Canada. I'm trying to find out about the guy in either Montreal or Toronto. I'm thinking his last name was Fleming, but when I do a search, I don't come up with anything. I'll keep working on it, as that guy worked a lot with finches. He used to send large shipments to brokers in Florida.

I think I've found it! I did a search on this forum, as I remembered that L in Ontario, a former moderator, had mentioned Fleming. Do a search for Fleming and you will come up with the posts where he was mentioned. Anyway, if I am right, he is in Toronto area, but at least he would be closer for shipping. His website doesn't show birds in stock, but he may not post that information. You can give him a call and see.
