Just noticed your thread about 'denial' and had a good chuckle.
When I sneak in a new bird or two or six, I say nothing, waiting to see how long it will take people to notice.
Sometimes it takes a surprisingly long time. Then someone will say : "Have you had that bird (s) for a while? Never noticed it before." Response:  "You never notice anything, herumph."

I caught a white zebra finch that had escaped from somewhere. I bought a small aviary and added 7 more zebra finches. I then added diamond sparrows, star finches and grass finches. I decided that this was not going to work so I bought a big aviary for the latter finches and added black and white mannikins, quails, blue caps, gouldians. I then started with a pair of canaries in double breeding cage, this turned into 7 double breeders with 7 pairs. To spice things up I bought a small aviary for 2 pairs of love birds. Yesterday I ordered another 3 small aviaries and bought a pair of Indian ringnecks, cockatiels and budgies to come. This is all this year.

The next time my husband complains that we have too many birds, I'll tell him about your collection which started with one single white zebra finch. He'll be grateful that we only have 1 aviary and a few small cages :D

At least we're still far behind this guy I know who's building an aviary and planning to fill it with 80 pairs of gouldians. Talking about a real finchaholic.

vienneparis, KarinB, Elana

From the 8 Zebras I got 22 babies, had to sell them as they were falling over each other. I still have the original white Zebra which I ringed so that I don't sell him by mistake. The 8 are at it again this morning re-building nests and getting ready for the next batch of eggs, they are really lovely little things.

All my canaries are either on eggs or have babies bar one pair, I removed 5 babies to a separate cage as the parents started laying more eggs but they all died 1 by 1, I think I removed them too soon, I was really upset about this. Three canaries fledged the other day and I just removed the nest, I will leave them with the parents as long as it takes.

My kids call me the bird whisperer as I have 10 baby Grass finches, 2 baby Stars, and a baby Diamond Sparrow all that have fledged and oh yes I think my love birds have little ones. As I said this is all in one year.

Regards
Steve
