RIP Jellybean :(

I lost one of my 2 Gouldian females Jellybean this morning. This comes as a shock as she was perfectly fine yesterday.
She as well as her cage mates looked like they were thriving. She was eating fine , jumping around and chirping . There were no signs of illness ; good feather condition , clean vents and not fluffed up . She couldn't have been hiding any illnesses as I always get blood work done on any new bird I bring home. I am at a loss to explain why she passed.
Even though I only had her for 2 months , I can only hope she led a happy life albeit short life .

I'm so sorry about Jellybean.
I don't know what might have happened. If I remember right, you keep your birds in an outdoor flight. Am I right? Is it possible that some sort of snake, spider, or flying insect might have gotten to her?

Also, sometimes if they get really frightened by something, they will go into a panic, and can injure, or even kill themselves by flying into a post, a wall, or a window.

Again very sad for your loss.

I'm so sorry about your Jellybean.

I just lost one of my finches suddenly and unexpectedly. Also just had her for a couple months, so I can really sympathize. It feels so unfair.

I hope everyone else is okay and that it's an isolated incident.

Rest in peace and fly free, little Jellybean.

Shame sorry for the loss. Sometimes we just will never know what went wrong. They are small and fragile.

I live in an apartment in the Dubai. The birds are housed outside in a closed off balcony on the first floor. We practically have no wildlife here apart from the local city birds like pigeons , laughing and ringneck doves , bulbuls , house sparrows , Indian ringnecks , mynahs etc . No predators except for stray cats and the occasional crow.

It is very possible she had a night fright . Its never completely dark outside though due to the street/building lights being on throughout the night :/ .

I guess sometimes there is no explanation.

So sorry for the loss of Jellybean. As others have said, we often have no idea what went wrong. When I see a sudden death of one of my healthy birds, I just figure it must have been a night fright, though I really don't know what it was.

A quick question that may or may not have anything to do with this thread, just curiousity.

Can birds have heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure and such, the way people do? I've often wondeted, most particularly when I hear about seemingly healthy birds suddenly dying for no apparent reason.
